How safe is Wellington?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Wellington is generally quite secure, even at night, for solo female travelers. This city has low crime rates and residents are friendly and helpful. However, like any city worldwide, it is always advised that one should remain vigilant, particularly while walking alone at night. Stick to well-lit areas, avoid parks or deserted alleys, and always be conscious of your surroundings. It's better to use authorized, reliable transportation at late hours if possible.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Public transportation in Wellington is generally very safe. Buses, trams and ferries all operate with a high level of security and regularity. They are well-maintained, clean, and reliable with plenty of access for everyone, including solo female travelers. There's also a widely used and respected culture of helping out fellow passengers if they are in need, contributing to the feeling of safety. Wellington's public transportation also includes 24/7 services which adds an extra layer to the safety, as it means that you are not going to be stranded anywhere due to lack of public transportation.

In Wellington, instances of street harassment are fairly low. On a typical day, you can expect to walk around the city without experiencing catcalling, stalking, or any unwelcoming lewd comment. The city is safer compared to many others, with the general populace respecting personal space and showing courtesy to women. Of course, it's always essential to remain cautious and aware of your surroundings, but you're likely to find that Wellington is a comfortable and respectful environment for solo female travelers.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Wellington typically has a reputation for being safe and secure for travelers. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing or purse snatching are relatively low compared to other global cities. Wellington is most safe depending on what areas you stay in. The city centre is great, well lit and plenty people around. I would avoid the night clubs though, that’s what typically makes the city feel unsafe

On the whole very safe, it’s a pretty small city and people generally look out for each other. Like anywhere I wouldn’t say walking alone at night is recommended but I have many times and it’s always been okay :))
