How safe is Namibia?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Namibia is generally safe but caution is advised especially at night. The main cities are relatively safe but instances of petty crime like pickpocketing can occur. It's best to avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas. As a solo traveler, stick to well-lit, populated areas and organize your transportation in advance when possible.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Namibia generally consists of shuttle buses, taxis and minivans, and is often used by locals. However, it is not renowned for its punctuality or reliability. While it is fairly safe during the day, it may not be advisable to travel alone at night. Always be vigilant, keep your belongings secure, and avoid isolated areas or stopping in at less frequented places. Be cautious of overcrowded vehicles, as they may be more susceptible to pick-pocketing. Despite these issues, it still remains an affordable and often used means of transport across the country.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Namibia, overall, is a relatively safe country to visit. As a solo female traveler, you'll find that locals usually mind their own business, and street harassment is not a prevalent issue. However, like anywhere else, it's recommended to be cautious, especially at night or when in less busy locations. Always stay vigilant, avoid walking alone late at night, and be aware of your surroundings.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Namibia is relatively safe when it comes to petty crimes compared to other African countries. Instances of pickpocketing, purse snatching, or theft from vehicles could happen, especially in crowded areas or at night, but they are not widespread. It's always good advice to stay alert, not display wealth, and avoid deserted areas, especially after dark.
Tap water:

Tap water:Moderate

Tap water in Namibia's urban areas is generally safe to drink, as it's treated and meets World Health Organization standards. However, in remote and rural areas, the quality can differ significantly. Drinking bottled water is advisable when in these regions.

Namibia is a very safe country. Just be careful on the gravel roads. Most areas you do not need vaccination. I visited Namibia about 8 times. If you like to have any advise I am happy to help you. I also worked as a volunteer on a horse farm there.

Solo travel experience

I was in Namibia this year. I felt completely safe. Wonderful people. Surprisingly clean for Africa. Amazing nature. I highly recommend it, although it might turn out to be costly.

Is Namibia worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

Namibia is not particularly favorable for solo travelers. It's a vast desert, where often for hundreds of kilometers there are no gas stations, shops or villages. Namibia is the second least populated country in the world, after Mongolia. Public transportation only operates on the main road and at the borders.
