Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Xalapa is a relatively safe city but like anywhere, it is not recommended for solo female travelers to walk alone late at night. During the day, the city is vibrant and full of activities but nighttime can be a bit risky. Common sense precautions should be taken such as avoiding dimly-lit areas or deserted streets. It's safe to a certain extent but always remember to stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially at night.

Public transportation in Xalapa is fairly decent. Buses are the primary mode of public transportation and they are generally safe to use during the day, although they can get crowded. There are also numerous taxis available. However, it's recommended to call for a taxi through a registered taxi company rather than hailing one off the street to ensure safety. While crime levels are not excessively high, it's still important to remain vigilant, particularly during night hours. Always have an eye on your belongings and don't display valuables openly.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Moderate

Xalapa has a moderate occurrence of street harassment. While it is generally safe for solo female travelers in broad daylight and crowded areas, it's good to stay cautious especially during nighttime. Catcalling can be observed occasionally, but most locals are respectful and are willing to help if necessary.

Xalapa has a considerable level of petty crime like pickpocketing and bag snatching, especially in crowded areas or public transport. Be vigilant about your belongings and careful not to exhibit high value items in public.
