Is Veracruz Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

While Veracruz boasts vibrant culture and beautiful destinations, it isn't without safety concerns for solo female travelers. How safe is Veracruz?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Unsafe

Veracruz is a beautiful place to visit, with warm people and rich culture. However, safety can be a concern, especially during the night. It's wise to avoid walking alone at night, stick to well-populated and well-lit areas, and always be alert to your surroundings. Urban areas, vacant spots, and the outskirts of the city can have higher crime rates. Always use licensed taxis or reliable ride-sharing apps for transportation during the night. It's recommended to exercise caution and seek local advice.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Veracruz is generally reliable, though it can be crowded at times. However, it is advised to remain vigilant and always be aware of your surroundings when travelling by bus or taxi. It's always helpful to know some Spanish to communicate with locals. Although incidents of crime involving tourists are not common, they can happen. Avoid travelling late at night or in secluded areas.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Moderate

While Veracruz is generally welcoming to tourists, instances of street harassment do occur occasionally. The city can be busy and chaotic at times, particularly in the downtown areas and during popular events, and women have reported minor instances of catcalling and unwanted attention. However, these instances are not typically aggressive or dangerous. It's always beneficial to take basic safety precautions, remain aware of your surroundings, and respect local customs and dress codes.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Veracruz, experiences a moderate level of petty crimes like pickpocketing and bag snatching, particularly in crowded places and public transport. Always stay alert and mindful of your belongings. However, many tourists visit without any issues. It's advisable to use common sense precautions as you would in any other cities around the world.

Is Veracruz safe for women?

I have never experienced any type of harassment in this city. I have lived in other parts of Mexico where I’ve felt quite unsafe around man in the street, but this city doesn’t treat me like that haha. A lot of people say I should be cautious about people stealing my personal belongings but besides that I am not worried at all. I have walked alone at midnight and I have never experienced any type of scary situation.
