Is Taketomi-jima safe for solo female travelers?

Taketomi-jima is an exceptionally safe destination for solo female travelers. Japan's crime rates are generally very low, and this island is no exception. An atmosphere of respect and courtesy prevails in this culturally rich destination. As in any location, it’s recommended to exercise general safety precautions, such as not flashing expensive belongings. However, violent crime is extremely rare.
