Is Okutama safe for solo female travelers?

Okutama is considered a very safe destination for solo female travelers. The crime rate is exceptionally low and locals are generally respectful and helpful. It's safe to walk around at night and public transportation is reliable and secure. It's always important, however, to keep normal safety precautions no matter how safe a place is.
