I have super mixed feelings about the experience. I didn‘t like Manaus because I felt unsafe and there was a lot of trash and ugly buildings (I know that a lot of people like the centre but I didn‘t find anything special) but it‘s the gate to the amazing Amazon Forest and I loved being in the nature. So yeah, I expected more from the city but you should definitly go there to start your trip to the Amazon forest! (I personally can recommend the Cabana Nativa Paraíso a lot!)

Manaus is the industrial capital of Brazil, bustling with numerous companies scattered everywhere. Overall, it was okay; however, the city is quite chaotic, dirty, and noisy. Distances are vast. Aside from the blue and green lagoon, I wouldn’t recommend staying in this city for an extended period.

During the day, in general, you can walk in any area. At night, even in tourist spots, there isn't enough security. On my second day in the city, I suffered an attempted robbery during which I was assaulted and had to get about four stitches in my head... the rule is clear: at night, always use Uber to get around. If you are in an enclosed place, it's fine. The real problem is being out on the street after 8pm.
