How safe is Cuiabá?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Unsafe

Cuiabá, like many urban areas, has areas that are less safe, especially at night. It's recommended to avoid walking alone during the late hours to mitigate any potential risks. Use reliable public transportation or taxis when possible. Also, staying in well-lit areas helps to increase your security. While local businesses are generally friendly and welcoming, it's important to always be aware of your surroundings and use common travel safety practices.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Cuiabá, is generally reliable during the day with frequent bus routes, but it's advisable to be cautious especially at night due to petty crime incidents. Also, overcrowding and long waits can sometimes be an issue, which might leave you feeling uncomfortable. Though most locals are helpful, language might be a barrier as English is not widely spoken.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Moderate

Cuiabá is generally a safe city to travel in with a moderate amount of street harassment. It is not uncommon to receive unwelcome attention, especially in crowded public places. This is often vocal rather than physical, but it's an important factor to consider when planning your travel. As a foreigner, you may draw attention, but walking confidently and being assertive if confronted usually helps. Adopting local customs and dressing modestly can also minimize attention. However, as in any city, it is always wise to be cautious, especially at night, and to stay in well-populated areas.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Cuiabá is a city where petty crimes such as pickpocketing, purse snatching, and theft from parked cars can occur especially in crowded areas and tourist spots. A certain level of awareness is required. However, using precautionary measures like maintaining a low profile, securing personal items, avoiding late night solo trips can help mitigate risks.

Cuiabá is generally safe, be careful only after 11:00 at night, don't walk alone. You can walk anywhere during the day peacefully. The nearby tourist attractions are also quite peaceful. Depending on the place, it may not be safe to walk around talking on your cell phone.

I'm a calm person who loves to travel, but unfortunately I have fewer opportunities than I would like. Now that my daughters are growing up, I'm trying to give myself the chance to do more of the things I like.
