My third time in Zakopane - this time with my mom and more for mountains, less for rest. My legs were dead after 6 hours in Hala Gąsienicowa and even more after Dolina Kościeliska. Weather was amazing, lots of people but still comfortable. Food soooo good! I mostly tried polish foods - żurek in bread recommended! My mom loved pierogi (without an s!) If you're looking for hotel there, I can send you a link for Booking.com as I don't remember the name now. We had amazing view for Giewont, balcony and peace for a really low price (Almost nothing!)

It was quite safe. I stayed in a hostel where they had mixed rooms- but during most of the stay they only had women in that room. I ventured into the mountains alone. Not sure about the people knowing english there - I used broken polish to communicate because I had the feeling no one would understand english. Keep in mind that big stores are closed on sundays so buy your food early!!
