About me

Hi there! I’m Xhejsa, Albanian born and living in Miami (for the moment). I love a good adventure and exploring new places but nothing like making new friends while at it. I am a big lover of music, plants, nature, photography and good, deep talks. Looking to make new connections and friendships in the meantime.

Is Miami safe for women?

Miami is pretty safe, I feel quite comfortable as a pedestrian and using the train but most days I am dealing with sexual harassment from strangers. But I’ve never had to deal with outright assault or stalking, though my sister has been followed once off the train. The city and downtown are especially dangerous, in Miami Beach at night there are “sand crawlers” that will literally crawl belly down on the sand to take your stuff, even while you’re laying on the very towel your bags are on. They will come until they know you’re aware of them, but will leave and not pick a fight or get violent. In Some areas groping can be a concern, like Calle ocho in Little Havana, especially during the festival there. I was 13 when I went and followed into my sisters car by drunk men who rapped on our windows. I really don’t reccomend that festival lol. Miami has plenty of nature, Coconut Grove is beautiful to walk around and shop and eat, Fairchild botanical gardens are extraordinary, the Kampong is worth a visit, the Everglades are gorgeous even at night (especially on a full moon) and Virginia Key north point park are my favorite places, and I feel safe traveling alone in each, don’t really even come across sexual harassment. Oleta river state park further north is also really beautiful.
