Is Rome safe for women?

I felt safe alone in the city center around 9 PM, but crowded spots can be risky because of pickpockets. Always watch your belongings and stay alert around street vendors. Avoid going alone to distant neighborhoods, even during the day

After living for years in Rome, I’ve never felt unsafe, even when I was walking back home at 3am around the main train station Termini. Make sure to be keep an eye to your belongings because there are a lot of pickpockets apparently.
Posted: November 7, 2025During the day Rome is safe, especially on the city center. On the night I don’t recommend to stay out alone, especially if the area is not in the center and quite isolated. Avoid the stations during the night.

Safety in Rome depends greatly on the area of the city. However, you should always be vigilant and careful, especially if you are alone in the evening or at night. I don't consider it unsafe in general, but you still need to be careful.
