Traverse City is an extremely safe Hallmark movies type of town. Many people do not lock their doors and it's very friendly towards tourists as that is our main economy. Midwesterners are very nice people overall

Traverse City, MI is a very safe destination. I walk around downtown regularly with no worries. It is a small city with low crime rates compared to other areas of Michigan. I feel comfortable camping, hiking, visiting the local wineries, going out to dinner or bars. It is a safe community.
