It's not the most terrible place. You just have to know where to go and what time to be there. I would not recommend travelling when it gets dark out because there are men that get more audacious. My worst experiences have always been around Camelback or Van Buren or Thomas Rd
Posted: June 29, 2025Phoenix is safe as long as you're not alone out after dark. There tends to be unsavory characters out and about after dark. Especially in the downtown and more metropolitan areas. Suburban areas tend to be safer.
Posted: June 27, 2025I always say it’s best to be aware of surroundings, but for the most part, during the day- Phoenix is safe in many parts! I would say to make sure to have a buddy if being out at night, as I don’t feel the most comfortable out at night.
Posted: June 5, 2025Depending on the area of the city you’re in, Phoenix is a pretty safe place. I feel safe being out at night in public places. I would eat out alone and go to events alone. Not sure I would try hiking or camping alone.but daytime adventures I would feel safe alone.

Central city is safe for walking and enjoying the nightlife, very car dependent due to heat and distances. People are friendly and fun. Like all other US cities, we have a large homeless/houseless population. You encounter them in front of stores, public transit, etc. This tends to scare people as the homeless can be high on drugs or acting irrationally at times. But they tend to keep to themselves and not interact with other riders or walkers much. Safety changes in some suburban areas and can vary by streets. Would suggest some to stay away from 24st on East valley and 35th Ave on west side.
