Central city is safe for walking and enjoying the nightlife, very car dependent due to heat and distances. People are friendly and fun. Like all other US cities, we have a large homeless/houseless population. You encounter them in front of stores, public transit, etc. This tends to scare people as the homeless can be high on drugs or acting irrationally at times. But they tend to keep to themselves and not interact with other riders or walkers much. Safety changes in some suburban areas and can vary by streets. Would suggest some to stay away from 24st on East valley and 35th Ave on west side.
Posted: April 14, 2025in my experience phoenix is not a safe place to be as a woman i have been stalked i have friends who have been kidnapped raped when on a walk even my guy friends do not feel save walking alone in phoenix
Posted: February 22, 2025The area like Tempe is very safe there is south PHX that is a little sketchy. Scottsdale is the nicer area. Overall I don’t generally see a lot of crime. It’s pretty safe. You can walk at night and not feel scared
Posted: January 18, 2025I looooved Phoenix, but It's pretty dangerous imo. The public transport is horrible so you have to rent a car or rely on ubers😬 I would not recommended going solo, keep a friend with you, especially after dark.. But overall its a great city and absolutely worth the visit, just be careful!! ❤️

Phoenix is safe in general, mostly if you live in high traffic areas where some of the better known malls are. Downtown, old town, etc. I would absolutely stay away from Maryvale, used to live there, as there is lots of crime activity there. Scottsdale, pretty close to Phoenix!, is also a decently safe place!
Posted: September 15, 2024I overall feel pretty safe here in Phoenix. But like any place I live or visit, as a woman I am always aware and attuned to my intuition and surroundings. Since I live in the city, I do my due diligence but locking up my house and cars doors. Most of the crimes in my location are petty crimes like theft, package theft, mail theft, break ins. I also do not walk around by myself in the dark, I would rather take a car. Not well versed in public transportation here, because it’s not widely used. Most everyone has a car to get around. I find it hard to navigate in this city without a vehicle.
Posted: August 6, 2024Safe in some parts such as Chandler where I currently live, but kinda sketchy in Tempe. Phoenix is full of wonderful people and lots to do up here! Just make sure at night to always have a buddy, and a plan.

Phoenix is mostly safe, but there are definitely areas to stay away from and you need to be aware if walking at night. Especially if you’re in an area that’s secluded, or where men may be drinking or having fun with other guys.
Posted: June 4, 2024Phoenix is mostly safe but precautions should be taken when walking downtown late at night. As long as you stay aware of your surroundings you will be fine. Make sure to stay along the main roads near traffic and street lamps.
Posted: April 13, 2024As you get further from downtown and further from Old Town Scottsdale the safer you are in my opinion. Lots of homelessness around downtown and midtown. As well as since old town is a touristy place, it’s attractive to people asking for money or hanging out around the shops. I’ve had one instance where I did not feel safe during the day but many people were around so I just ran off.

Ensure to see the Sun rise and sun set every day - from any city and view I can get. Grateful to have seen many parts of the US and then some, find that travel ignites my spirit and creativity. Solo traveler for most of it and enjoy the passing moments of those that I meet. Love animals, food, and great conversation
