Bellingham is a pretty small city, it’s a college town so it’s got a younger age group kind of crowd. But a lot happens but sometimes it would be a good idea to not walk alone late at night downtown. Otherwise the town is pretty safe and not much happens.

Bellingham is a super safe city. Never experienced any problems and I’ve lived here almost all my life! Just have a good sense of awareness like you would in any city. But there are no major issues to be aware of, maybe other than drug use on some street corners and alleys.
Posted: March 4, 2025Bellingham is a safe city. While there is a moderate homeless population, I have never had any scary or negative experiences with any individuals. That said, I have witnessed 1 drug overdose downtown in my 17 years living here but that did not directly impact my safety (I just called the police). Walking around at night, I feel safe because downtown there are people around who care about the wellbeing of others to provide that safety in numbers. I put a bit of concern for sexual assault as I am a college student and feel a small risk in party settings and my friends have reported mildly to moderately creepy experiences dancing at The Royal Nightclub. For dancing safety, I would definitely recommend Rumors and avoid the Royal. I have always found women to hangout with when I go out alone and that has been really nice- I believe most women in Bellingham would stick their neck out for a stranger to make sure they stay safe!

Beautiful place with many things to do! It is safe to walk around alone during the day, but only in groups at night and not too late. It has fun bars, beautiful views by the water, and is very close to the Canadian border. There are cute bookshops and thrift stores.

Bellingham is a generally safe bedroom community of Seattle, Washington. That being said, we have a population of houseless folks that grows everyday. People often keep to themselves, but in my experience and my day to day, I regularly see crimes being committed (open air drug use, people walking around with stolen property/bicycles) while the local police force rarely intervenes.

Hi all, I’m Emma. I am looking to travel Latin America this year. I’d like to visit Columbia, Panama, and Costa Rica. I’m planning a trip to Cuba in March 2024. Looking for a travel buddy (or buddies)!

I love to meet new people. I enjoy sightseeing, food, and culture. I love the great outdoors: hiking, biking, swimming. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, beautiful Bellingham Washington. (USA) Wife, mother to a fun, caring, athletic 17 years old daughter. This summer, we did our 1st family motorcycle trip.... yes, our daughter rides motorcycles. She learned to ride at age 5. My husband and I both learned to ride motorcycles at age 6. Each summer, I volunteer for a week as a camp counselor at a camp for foster children. It is so great to love them.
