Vilnius is save and calm. Sometimes at night can be unpleasant situations, but usually it's only about few districts. I have been living here for 2 years and I have never faced with physically harm from strangers. But sometimes drunk people especially on a station can say rude and dirty words

Generally Vilnius is pretty safe, you can meet drunk people but usually you dont get annoyed by strangers, only some homeless people can disturb, but it doesnt happen often, maybe once a month. But i dont recomend being alone in naujininkai or bus station area

Vilnius is a very calm and safe city even at night, the city is very quiet and there is no need to worry, there is always police on the streets at night, especially in the city center and we have a lot of police stations So there is no need to worry about safety, but it is still worth carrying pepper spray to protect yourself from drunk people.
Posted: July 16, 2025Vilnius is pretty safe overall. The Old Town and New Town are totally fine to walk around, even at night – lots of people, lights, and good vibes. Like any city, some outer neighborhoods can have the occasional sketchy moment, but nothing too crazy. Just keep your eyes open and enjoy the city – it’s super chill for the most part!

Overall I feel safe. I haven’t seen or heard from any of my acquaintances about witnessing/experiencing an assault/robbing/kidnapping/rape. There are such occurrences once in a while, but I only hear about them from the news. There are less safe areas of town (such as the central station district) or places like clubs (haven’t been to one myself, but heard that sexual harassment, possible drugging, pickpocketing might happen), where it doesn’t feel that safe to walk through at night. Despite that, my experience in Vilnius is great: walking at night through the old town, in my home district hasn’t caused any troubles. Generally, at summer, late spring or early autumn in the old town many clubs, pubs are open and the youth is active, but it feels welcoming, rather than dangerous. In my home district (Pilaitė), I go running 3-4 times a week in the dark (00:00-01:00) - haven’t had any issues and feel comfortable. Of course, caution is always advised - some districts are less safe at night, but at day time I feel safe all around town.

I found Vilnius really safe, people really mind their own business and men are respectful. I even went on my own for food and a drink to a local pub, there was a group of men seated at the same table and they let me be. I loved the history of Vilnius, visiting the museums, going to the Opera, the prison, a fascinating place!
