As in every country there is criminals, but it’s much more peaceful then in bigger countries. At night streets are calm and empty, only old town is crowded on weekends mostly. Not bad place to live in
Posted: February 15, 2025Riga is super safe there is a lot of CCTV in comparison to Germany! There are a lot of streetlights and people are super friendly in most areas and super honest. I lost important things a few times and always got them back.
Posted: February 7, 2025Its alright. I dont use public transport in my hometown. From city to city its alright. Have nothing to worry about. In Rīga taking a public transport sometimes you can get the creeps because of the indians looking at you like a piece of meat.

It's kinda safe as an international student here. But i would say i only experience crowded and central area! So be cautious anyway! Always stay safe ladies, especially when you're alone no matter which city which country, keep eyes open ❤❤❤❤❤

Old Riga is a wonderful place to be! It's always buzzing, it truly never sleeps. The area is saturated with tourists and locals alike, because the area is truly beautiful, it is right in the heart of Riga as well. It contains countless café's, restaurants, shops, museums, bars, churches, anything you could want in one place. After the sun sets, you can see how the city parties! Every bar is filled with smiles from tourists and locals alike. The most active street is Grēcinieku iela - Sinners street in direct translation. This is the only time/place I'd regard a bit dangerous, because drunk people can get rowdy, but If you don't go around swinging, they won't disturb you at all :)
Posted: January 20, 2025I would say that Riga overall is safe. Of course, I would be more careful during late night hours as I at least get a bit panicked when walking alone in the dark, especially friday night when people are out drinking. I’d say that it also depends on where you live. For example, I feel most safe in centre of Riga and in my district - Mežaparks. But there are some districts that I would not recommend staying at because they may be a bit sketchy (at least in my opinion).

I would say that Latvia is a pretty safe country, you just have to check the places you may want to go to first so you don’t get lost, in our country the night life is safe as well, I just don’t recommend going alone, bring someone with you.

I’ve been here since 2023 and actually I really feel safe. Usually there are polices around the city but even though with that I’ve never experienced anything terrified me. Of course there are some situations that you can feel uncomfortable but I think this is a little bit normal, in everywhere you’re not safe %100
Posted: January 15, 2025In Riga it depends with safety. There are some sketchy places that I wouldn’t go at night (past 10 pm) like Origo shopping centre or surrounding area like the Riga food market but before that it is totally safe because there are lot of people going home from jobs or shopping. I would say I am a bit anxious person so I always overthink and worry to much
Posted: January 3, 2025If you stay in the center side and out of the "sleeping (9-12story residential home)" areas, then you are going to feel fairly safe in Riga 24/7. The public transport and quick car rentals are safe, and there are public transport stops in <5min walking distance. Some old creepy guys catcalling are happening a lot less than 15 years ago. Youth knows English better than Russian as their 2nd or 3rd language choice, so almost everyone is able to help out if you get lost.

I went Latvia for Erasmus and it was the best thing I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never felt safe and peaceful anywhere. You can enjoy the clubs and even after 4 am you can walk to your place ALONE. I’ve done that many times and it’s really safe. The people are really friendly and open to new experiences. I was never bored. The only thing is in the winter it’s always snowing so if you don’t like I wouldn’t recommend but other than that everything was good

Latvia
I felt super safe! A very walkable city, and very few tourists! I stayed in Liberty Hotel, very good place for it's price. Close to McDonalds and the old town. The cakes taste weird 🙃 didn't experince any restaurant that i liked, so just kept to supermarkets
