I would say that Riga overall is safe. Of course, I would be more careful during late night hours as I at least get a bit panicked when walking alone in the dark, especially friday night when people are out drinking. I’d say that it also depends on where you live. For example, I feel most safe in centre of Riga and in my district - Mežaparks. But there are some districts that I would not recommend staying at because they may be a bit sketchy (at least in my opinion).

I’ve been here since 2023 and actually I really feel safe. Usually there are polices around the city but even though with that I’ve never experienced anything terrified me. Of course there are some situations that you can feel uncomfortable but I think this is a little bit normal, in everywhere you’re not safe %100
Posted: January 15, 2025In Riga it depends with safety. There are some sketchy places that I wouldn’t go at night (past 10 pm) like Origo shopping centre or surrounding area like the Riga food market but before that it is totally safe because there are lot of people going home from jobs or shopping. I would say I am a bit anxious person so I always overthink and worry to much
Posted: January 3, 2025If you stay in the center side and out of the "sleeping (9-12story residential home)" areas, then you are going to feel fairly safe in Riga 24/7. The public transport and quick car rentals are safe, and there are public transport stops in <5min walking distance. Some old creepy guys catcalling are happening a lot less than 15 years ago. Youth knows English better than Russian as their 2nd or 3rd language choice, so almost everyone is able to help out if you get lost.
Posted: January 2, 2025I would say that it’s mostly safe. Of course it depends on where you are staying and where or with who do you spend time. I would say that the best places to hang out in is Rigas centre, beaches, Jūrmala, Mežaparks etc. Avoid visiting Maskačka, Ķengarags, Imanta, Iļguciems.
Posted: December 31, 2024Riga is safe overall. Even in my area, which is not the best by local rates, I feel safe. Here people are calm and less energy to do anuting. Even if you go out at night, so less people on the street. Nothong going on in this country

In general safe and peaceful place, but we all have to be careful anywhere in the world. Like in any country, in night some stranger people will be out, but mostly you can feel same in Latvia! Would recommend to come here
Posted: December 25, 2024In general Riga is a safe city, should avoid neighborhood called Sarkandaugava, but city centre is a safe space, especially if you stick to Old Riga (yes, even at night). Like any other city close to central station and other very public places you might want to keep an eye on your personal belongings.
Posted: July 8, 2024Safest place I’ve been, you can leave your computer in a Café and no one will touch it. Walk through a park without proper lights and allow pitch dark? Nothing gonna happen. No street calling, harassment or else it’s life changing.
Posted: July 5, 2024I've generally found Riga, especially the city centre, to be relatively safe. I've walked alone at night many times and thankfully was never attacked. There are some men who may come on to you late at night but pepper spray is a useful tool in that case. It's best to walk in well lit and more crowded areas

The locals was lovely! And was very open hearted and was very polite and friendly. They often give compliments and want to show us around. The food was very good, lovely! And the night life was funny, and it was a lot of France people there for studies.
Posted: January 14, 2025I felt very safe, the people were warm and helpful. They speak English well and most also speak Russian. No one bothered me, I wasn't worried about being robbed (like in Brussels or Barcelona). I recommend it.
