Last week my friends and i went to travel Riga, Old Town. We really love the atmosphere, history, buildings and the culture. We visited the Christmas market for the first time in our lives. Even if the city was so cold we enjoyed so much.
Posted: December 5, 2025Experienced: October, 2025While in Riga I stayed in the Blue Bird Hostel in the old city. The city felt pretty safe to walk around, although I didn't stay out very late. I really recommend the Art Nouveau neighborhood. I'm not aware of any museums since I had no time to visit one but simply walking around is very pleasant

It’s very safe overall, I never have to watch my back. But just like anywhere you do need to be mindful of your surroundings and be aware overall. But I’ve never had my phone stolen, or anything like this happen in the touristy areas or where I live.
Posted: June 10, 2026It is safe during the day, the biggest issue would be a homeless/a drunk person approaching you. In night there are random men wondering around so i feel a bit unsafe. Especially in the old town/near bars and clubs since the men are drunk and try to approach you

I am living in Riga for over 2 years and I confirm it is a highly safe capital especially for female travelers, you will not face any problem here. I was in different cities as well and even going back home at late night hours I never felt unsafe.

I have never felt unsafe in Riga, however I think you can never be too cautious. Around Origo Mall and east part of it has more crime rates due to having an underpass and train station. But again I haven't had any issues so far.
