Is Latvia safe for solo female travelers?

Latvia is generally quite safe for solo female travelers. Women report feeling safe walking around both during the day and at night, even in more isolated areas. Petty crime such as pickpocketing can occur, particularly in crowded places or on public transportation, so it's wise to always keep a close eye on your belongings. In terms of personal safety, harassment is rarely reported. Remember to stay cautious as per suggestion for all travels. Overall, Latvia provides a secure environment for a solo female traveler, but standard travel precautions should always be applied.

Riga, Solo travel

While in Riga I stayed in the Blue Bird Hostel in the old city. The city felt pretty safe to walk around, although I didn't stay out very late. I really recommend the Art Nouveau neighborhood. I'm not aware of any museums since I had no time to visit one but simply walking around is very pleasant

I went Latvia for Erasmus and it was the best thing I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never felt safe and peaceful anywhere. You can enjoy the clubs and even after 4 am you can walk to your place ALONE. I’ve done that many times and it’s really safe. The people are really friendly and open to new experiences. I was never bored. The only thing is in the winter it’s always snowing so if you don’t like I wouldn’t recommend but other than that everything was good

I felt super safe! A very walkable city, and very few tourists! I stayed in Liberty Hotel, very good place for it's price. Close to McDonalds and the old town. The cakes taste weird 🙃 didn't experince any restaurant that i liked, so just kept to supermarkets

I had a lovely time in Riga with my mom and grandma. We felt very safe, wherever we went. We saw the Stalin Tower, the old KGB museum (not for the faint hearted) and just walked around the old city. The city is absolutely beautiful with old architecture and fascinating sculptures. The food is amazing and cheap. Would recommend.

Generally I feel safe in Riga. As always, avoid being alone during the night, but I don't follow that rule. Doesn't mean you shouldn't. Avoid Origo if you can. Old town is generally safe in my opinion, police is very responsive if anything.

Latvia is a pretty safe country. The biggest danger is on the roads ( a lot or reckless speeding and drunk driving). There might be an occasional man trying to hit on you or a drunk asking for money but in my experience you can shake them off pretty easily. Still always try to stay safe and don't walk alone in the middle of the night. If you're going clubbing, try and find somebody to go with and i would suggest calling a taxi to get back home, just for safety.

The center is pretty much safe, so I would say you don’t have to worry at all. If we are talking about Ķengarags, Āgenskalns and other regions around the center, they are pretty unsafe, so I don’t recommend getting out there after dark.

Latvia

I think it’s safe during the day. Since it’s population is not too crowded, i don’t feel like I’ll be kidnapped or robbed. But sometimes random drunk people make me feel worried. I haven’t used public transport in the night so I cannot comment on it but here bolt is commonly used and affordable.

About me

Hey there! I recently graduated from medical school, which means I can officially call myself Dr. (though sometimes it still feels unreal). I’m ambitiously diving into the field of gynaecology and obstetrics and as a natural consequence, I’m currently a volunteer at a family planning and sexual health organization.

About me

Hey there! I’m a blend of code and curiosity, a frontend developer by day, a sunset chaser, language explorer, and spontaneous adventure seeker by heart 😁 Born in Ukraine, based in Riga, Latvia 🇱🇻, but my soul is usually somewhere between the sea breeze and a freshly coffee 😋. I’m always hunting for cozy cafes and hidden foodie gems - the kind of places that serve flavor and a little magic. I love dancing at night, planning dream trips (even if just in my notes app), and getting lost in deep convos or a good book. The sea recharges me, sunsets slow me down. And whether it’s grabbing a cocktail, watching thrillers, or jumping on a last-minute trip - I’m all in if the vibe is right. Let’s connect and make life a bit more cinematic. 🌅✨🍸
