Is Latvia Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Latvia is generally quite safe for solo female travelers. Women report feeling safe walking around both during the day and at night, even in more isolated areas. Petty crime such as pickpocketing can occur, particularly in crowded places or on public transportation, so it's wise to always keep a close eye on your belongings. In terms of personal safety, harassment is rarely reported. Remember to stay cautious as per suggestion for all travels. Overall, Latvia provides a secure environment for a solo female traveler, but standard travel precautions should always be applied.

Last week my friends and i went to travel Riga, Old Town. We really love the atmosphere, history, buildings and the culture. We visited the Christmas market for the first time in our lives. Even if the city was so cold we enjoyed so much.

Riga, Solo travel

While in Riga I stayed in the Blue Bird Hostel in the old city. The city felt pretty safe to walk around, although I didn't stay out very late. I really recommend the Art Nouveau neighborhood. I'm not aware of any museums since I had no time to visit one but simply walking around is very pleasant

I went Latvia for Erasmus and it was the best thing I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never felt safe and peaceful anywhere. You can enjoy the clubs and even after 4 am you can walk to your place ALONE. I’ve done that many times and it’s really safe. The people are really friendly and open to new experiences. I was never bored. The only thing is in the winter it’s always snowing so if you don’t like I wouldn’t recommend but other than that everything was good

I felt super safe! A very walkable city, and very few tourists! I stayed in Liberty Hotel, very good place for it's price. Close to McDonalds and the old town. The cakes taste weird 🙃 didn't experince any restaurant that i liked, so just kept to supermarkets

I had a lovely time in Riga with my mom and grandma. We felt very safe, wherever we went. We saw the Stalin Tower, the old KGB museum (not for the faint hearted) and just walked around the old city. The city is absolutely beautiful with old architecture and fascinating sculptures. The food is amazing and cheap. Would recommend.

I felt very safe, the people were warm and helpful. They speak English well and most also speak Russian. No one bothered me, I wasn't worried about being robbed (like in Brussels or Barcelona). I recommend it.

I felt extremely safe in Riga city centre, in summer especially. It is a quiet city with wide open streets. So much culture and beautiful architecture. The old town is where most tourists go clubbing, and there are some drunk men who may bother you, but they are generally tourists.

Riga

It's a pretty safe European city. As long as you stay in the city centre, you're fully safe, especially during day. It's okay to walk alone in city centre at night, just be aware of your surroundings.

city so small and safe because everyone’s asleep after 9pm. No real bars or clubs. Just this one place in Liepājas street (Klondaika), if you go there after midnight or early morning you could see someone fighting

Riga

riga is mostly safe, the only thing you should watch out for is old russian guys or homeless creepy dudes. sometimes you should watch out for skinheads or neonazis (they’re usually young guys with shaved heads and camouflage pants). maybe also watch out for other tourists.

Riga

It’s very safe overall, I never have to watch my back. But just like anywhere you do need to be mindful of your surroundings and be aware overall. But I’ve never had my phone stolen, or anything like this happen in the touristy areas or where I live.

Riga

It is safe during the day, the biggest issue would be a homeless/a drunk person approaching you. In night there are random men wondering around so i feel a bit unsafe. Especially in the old town/near bars and clubs since the men are drunk and try to approach you

I am living in Riga for over 2 years and I confirm it is a highly safe capital especially for female travelers, you will not face any problem here. I was in different cities as well and even going back home at late night hours I never felt unsafe.
