it depende of the quartiere, im staying in bolognina, near the station and the piazza xx settembre and its not very safe at night for women. if you stay away from this particular places that are known to be dangerous, it's not that scary
Posted: October 30, 2024Bologna during the day is a safe city where you can talk to anyone for support if needed, or simply to share a few words. In the late night, like in any major city, it's advisable not to walk alone. However, the city center is lively and bustling with activity, where you'll meet pleasant people, as well as some unusual characters to avoid.

Bologna is a vibrant city. Like all other cities, there are some shady places that are better to avoid, especially when walking alone late at night. However, I can say it's generally safe for women. I have never had a dangerous experience, and the few things I have heard about were mild dangers that are easy to avoid.
Posted: October 18, 2024Depends on the areas really. I feel the least safe near the train station and around Parco della Montagnola, or in Piazza Aldrovandi. At night there can be drunken Uni students around, especially on the weekends or sometimes groups of kids not too reccommendable, but less than in bigger cities. On the bus it is better to keep your belongings close and to keep an eye around for potential robbers, usually by being guarded the danger is avoided. I actually walked home alone from the city centre to San Donato a bunch of times (30 min+), and a part from the area being deserted and creepy, it was doable. During the day it is usually an okay and friendly city, just be careful about people approaching that may not have right intentions. Oh and if you have a bike it is better to lock it with two sturdy locks, otherwise is usually gone.

Bologna is a city with a lot of inhabitants. There are many students, so during the academic year you will find always people at night around in the center. I feel quite safe walking alone here, but still I heard about stories of violence. As a queer person it’s safe, you can feel free to express yourself and your love openly.
Posted: September 5, 2024Quote safe, it depends on the area. The center is safer, or it feels safer than the rest. Avoid Piazza verdi and the streets around at night. Pratello is pretty safe to go alone and its full of people.
Posted: August 31, 2024Bologna is a Safe city overall. Although there has been some kind of stealing experience, usually related to bicycles. It's better not to leave your bike outside for a long time. But I guess it's safe for women. I've been in different parts of the city at night, even once at 3 am, and I never felt unsafe.
Posted: August 28, 2024Okay so Bologna is pretty safe for the most part as a woman (I’m a white American) but the catcalling is insane and a lot to deal with sometimes and the stares by men. Also I was flashed which was unpleasant and the same thing happened to my friend a week after. The police/carabinieri don’t take anything seriously when it comes to womens safety as well, which is pretty well known and kind of reflects the general attitude towards women in the country which I think is also mirrored in mens states/street harassment. Also two of my friends had an attempted mugging but the men weren’t able to take anything and ran off, they didn’t have any weapons though.
Posted: August 16, 2024I lived most of my life in Bologna and only when I visited a truly safe country, I realized it is not really safe. You have to stay alert all the time to take care of pickpockets and if you're on public transportation avoid them when they're crowded as men tend to touch you inappropriately. My best friend was running in the afternoon, daytime, close to her home and two men tried to assault her. All of it happened in the span of around 10 years so obviously it doesn't happen every day, just take care.
Posted: July 31, 2024Bologna appears to be more safe than it actually is, but the city center is not that bad for women. Public transportation at night is not the safest, but since there are porches with lights I always felt sad while walking on foot

I felt very safe in Bologna, and I had a great time. Less touristic than Florence or Rome which made it way better for experiencing the local culture and just relaxing. The local food was absolutely amazing and the Gelato as well!
