Bologna during the Day is quite nice from what I've experienced, there's usually a lot of tourism and in the university zone is always full of young students and quite great people. In the night i might be less safe especially around the uni zone and little street, please be careful is walking alone.. I've had some bad experiences walking home alone. there's some group of guys like BOLOGNA di notte and NOTTAMBULA that offers to take you to a bus stop or walk with you if you need! fell free to text me too and If I'm available I'd be glad to help you walk anywhere<3

Bologna is a small city in the north of Italy. It is mostly a University city so it is full of students and fun activities to do. It is romantic in such ways, you just need to get lost around the city. The food is the best and there’re lots of small vintage shops you cannot miss.
Posted: February 8, 2025Bologna as a very active night life and there are some services like “Nottambula” which is a group of people that helps women get home safe at night, overall people are very friendly so if you are alone or are feeling kind of unsafe usually groups of girls (but not only) will include and help you. As concernes crime there are A LOT of bike stealings every day so you gotta lock it well, and usually in some areas like squares (such as Piazza Verdi) people will try to sell you cannabis (not very good quality) but if you just say that you are good they will not bother you most of the times.
Posted: January 12, 2025Bologna is generally a very safe cities also for women. I have walked around after dark and nothing weird has happened to me. However, I know that some women have had bad experiences and there are some areas of the city were people say it's not safe to go especially with the dark (Bolognina, Pilastro). However, overall I think it's of of the safest Italian cities.
Posted: January 4, 2025Bologna it’s safe, you can see many girls walking or enjoying the city alone, of course it’s still a metropolitan city, so you just have to keep an eye open, especially at night. But there is so much life in the night as well, so it’s still safe even if you decide to have a drink or two!
Posted: January 2, 2025There are kind of a lot of harassment or sexual assaults here but in my experience ( I ride by bike) nothing is happened or I saw something. Still it’s a problem and we should be cautious about that!!
Posted: January 2, 2025Bologna is safer by bike. It’s a university city so there’s kinda always young people around everywhere. Honestly I’ve never felt worried but I know that there’s a lot of criminality overall in the city center. There’s two streets of the university zone that are dangerous from 10/11 p.m but I’ve never experienced more than a catcalling. Tbh there’s the possibility to meet drunk people or crazy ones in the center, but you can just evitate those streets .
Posted: January 1, 2025If you stay within the walls, especially in the uni district, i would consider the city quite safe. Also based on there always being lots of people at any time of day/night, especially in the uni district. Still there are some places to avoid and sexual harassment does occur. The residential areas i would deem to be pretty much safe.

Bologna is in general a safe city, after dark in some areas you need to be careful because there some people that live in the streets and it happened that they tried to rob other people, I usually carry with me a pepper spray and I feel a lot safer

In the three years that Inventari has been living in Bologna, I have never really felt scared or worried for my safety. Of course, there are some crimes, but I usually feel pretty confident and safe walking alone and using public transportation.

I feel like I can't do the city full justice as I was too ill to explore my first day here, but I would say it's probably better as a regional base to explore than a full destination in itself. It has impressive food, culture, history and street art, but definitely felt a bit rough around the edges. Whilst I never had any bad experience, I was warned not to go out in the dark and I didn't want to take the risk on my first trip. The area around the central station personally felt ungentrified and "gritty" rather than unsafe but everyone has a different comfort level and the warnings did stop me from exploring outside my hostel in the evenings so I'd reccomend it more for groups or couples than solo female travellers. I preferred my easy day trips to other cities overall.
Posted: February 7, 2025Experienced: January, 2025I felt very safe in Bologna, and I had a great time. Less touristic than Florence or Rome which made it way better for experiencing the local culture and just relaxing. The local food was absolutely amazing and the Gelato as well!

Hey! i am an art Student From South Italy, Currently living in Bologna to study at fine art academy with my best friend! I love to travel and I'd like to try new experiences to grow as a person and what's a better time than your twenties to try? i like nature, books, relaxing but also partying i probably am the most extrovert person in a group of introverts but, if the vibes match, i love to know more about new people and share couture and life experiences

I live in Bologna, a city I absolutely love—but my passion for traveling and refreshing treks is just as strong. I'm currently pursuing a master's degree in pharmaceutical biotechnology.
