South Jakarta

I think it depends on which area you’re going to, if you go to crowded places it is safer (you won’t get assaulted or kidnapped) but also you have more risks of getting robbed. In general never walk alone at night, always have someone with you just in case. If you have lots of tattoos, it’s also better to show them all as it can intimidate the men.

Yogyakarta

I don't know I am here since tow Days. But I feel save, the locals are very friendly and helpful. In Yogyakarta live many students an it's a spot for Art and Kultur. The People in the Hostel an on the rezeption are so nice and they told me If i need something, I only have to ask. I think the safety depends on the area you are living.

Jakarta

The metropolitan area is okay I guess, cons: crowded makes you dizzy, pros: crowded makes you feel safe. Suburban to rural area filled with friendly people, but always be polite and never cause any scene. Women here might give you arrogant and careless vibe but that's just because of how tiring the fast-paced city can become but when it comes to helping another woman they all are the best. They all are actually friendly and it's pretty easy to make friends. When traveling alone, I might say Jakarta is safe but don't loose guard cause some girls can't stand being catcalled, while some girls will just let it slip (like me). Just be careful wherever you are in general not just in Jakarta.

Jakarta

Jakarta is a big city, so of course there’s always possibility in criminal activities. But you could prevent anything undesirable by walking under the street light or crowded area, avoid using mobile phone too much in the street, and cover your body a bit, this is not Bali

Bali

The most safest areas are Ubud and north of Bali. Uluwatu too. Not sure about Kuta, you can be robbed there. Many markets where you can be touched without permission. Also Changu. Crowded areas with lots of tourists, parties.

Bali

I'd say Bali isn't that safe since a lot of people came in here. Some of them stayed and decided to live here. Some of them just wanna have a tour. I personally never being robbed because I actually don't go outside alone, like, barely. But catcalling is everywhere, and I admitted it it's annoying

Pontianak

Its generally a safe city but just like any other city you have to stay alert. I've personally been mugged before, they took my brand new phone. I feel safe walking alone around my house up to ±30 minutes away alone during daytime, but definitely not during night time. I don't travel by foot often as its not pedestrian friendly, and when i do walk i experience cat calling ocassionally.

Surakarta

In some area the safety might be questionable, but from the area that I live in, thankfully the crime rates is not high and it’s quite safe for international student to study or visit here, but I won’t recommend for a female traveler to walk alone after dark.

Indonesia

Not super safe as in many developed country, as in Japan or South Korea. Need to be careful and vigilant when walking on the streets. But CBD area on the broad day lights are okay. Public transports are a bit complicated.

Tangerang

I rarely go outside, but I can say it's fairly safe, especially around Alam Sutera. Since it is a good highly-developed neighborhood. However, going outside over 2 AM should be quite considerably a "no", since it is fairly quiet. I considered going back after 1 AM sometimes and never experienced any uncomfortable-ness, even though I use gojek most of the time.

Bukit Lawang, Couple travel

I went to Bukit Lawang in 2023 together with my boyfriend. We had the most amazing time while we were there. We chose to stay with Sumatra Orangutan Explore, which is pretty much the only ethical trekking company over there. We also did the trekking with this company and this was AMAZING. They have some very strict rules when it comes to how you should behave arround the animals. We also met some amazing people during this trekking. I would definitely recommend this trip to everyone. Also if you are searching for a place in Bukit lawang to get some cash of your card you should definitely go to sams bungalow. This was pretty much the only spot that accepts card🙈

Indonesia, Solo travel

I’ve lived in Indonesia for two years, based in Bandung and on and off in Bali. I love the country and its people deeply. I extended my stay from one year to two because I felt so good there! From local food in tiny warungs to calm spots by the ocean. Indonesia will always be in my heart. If you need some recommendations, hit me up!
