The metropolitan area is okay I guess, cons: crowded makes you dizzy, pros: crowded makes you feel safe. Suburban to rural area filled with friendly people, but always be polite and never cause any scene. Women here might give you arrogant and careless vibe but that's just because of how tiring the fast-paced city can become but when it comes to helping another woman they all are the best. They all are actually friendly and it's pretty easy to make friends. When traveling alone, I might say Jakarta is safe but don't loose guard cause some girls can't stand being catcalled, while some girls will just let it slip (like me). Just be careful wherever you are in general not just in Jakarta.

Jakarta is a big city, so of course there’s always possibility in criminal activities. But you could prevent anything undesirable by walking under the street light or crowded area, avoid using mobile phone too much in the street, and cover your body a bit, this is not Bali
Posted: February 2, 2025Jakarta is a good for women, unless on its outskirt area. The public transportation is safe at any time. You can also report to public transportation management if some harassment happened because they have their own regulation on it
Posted: January 3, 2025Unless you actively put yourself in unsafe situations, no one will harm you in any way. People here are generally timid and keep to themselves. The main crime here is scams/manipulative theft, no violent crimes at all. Also, people tend to have more respect towards foreigners here.

In Jakarta, you can easily using public transportation with only using one card, but I’m not recommend to walking on pedestrian. For woman, when you walking alone, there’s a lot of people will cat calling.
Posted: October 17, 2024As a female, I don't recommend walking alone at night. Take an uber / taxi please. As long as you're not out alone in the streets, you're pretty safe. I don't worry about safety in the malls or any indoors but definitely be careful and vigilant in car parks.

Hi ladies, I have been live in Jakarta almost 20 years. In my experience snd opionion is safe for woman travel. We had public transportation till mid night, and also apps like grab and gojeg is easy to used. Also people so friendly
Posted: August 26, 2024The center if Jakarta is very nice to walk at night. We don’t have many things to do but our night life is quiet good. Food is fantastic and people ate generally super nice. A lot if places offer air conditioning inside as Jakarta os super hot mid day.

I walk late at night whether coming from a late business meeting , or just going out and find food to eat I feel safe. I try riding grab, bluebird, taxi , motor bike and all safe in Jakarta. I tried train and bus, people are respectful.
Posted: June 18, 2024Sexual harassment in the streets of Jakarta is apparent in the form of catcalling and in the most extreme case which was personally experienced, groping. Aside from this, no other form of danger like theft, kidnap and rape have ever been a concern at the time of living in this city. However, taking caution was always practised when walking alone whether it be during the day or night.
Posted: June 12, 2024Jakarta was my first destination outside of Europe that I traveled solo to. I was a bit scared and overwhelmed at first. But I didn’t feel unsafe or uncomfortable any time, even while walking alone in the streets. People were amazing, welcoming and really helpful. It’s definitely not a place for everyone, the “sights” are nothing special but the culture and atmosphere is there. I stayed in a hostel called The Packers Lodge and I can only recommend it. Great for meeting people, welcoming, clean with a kitchen.
Posted: June 30, 2024Alot of people told me there isnt anything in Jakarta but I still went ahead with a solo trip. The people in Jakarta are very friendly and helpful. I stayed in All Season Thamrin Hotel which is 10 mins walk to the malls . Thamrin City was my favourite as I could purchase cloths at wholesale price. I went to Jakarta old town and I love the peaceful surroundings. Jakarta has MRT but I didnt commute. Most of the time I used GoJek their private hirer and its really affordable. Their food is amazing dont forget to try their Jamu drink if you are visiting.

I am from Germany, working west of Jakarta. Like to travel around and meet new cultures beside the main tourist streams. I am adaptable, uncomplicated and open to new adventures.
