I naturally overthink and worry, however I lived in Gödöllő my whole life and I can't say any of the things described above had happened. However don't leave your stuff unattended in public places because there's a risk of stealing, but people don't really come up to you to pickpocket.
Posted: February 1, 2025It is a small town of ~ 30000 people. We have a university and the town is located 30 km east of the capitol of Hungary, Budapest. The town boasts with a royal palace that used to be the summer residence of the king and queen back in the 19th century. The palace itself is stunning and it is surrounded by a huge and beautiful garden/park with age old trees. Godollo is a safe town to walk at night. I would avoid using the ‘HÉV’ as a means of public transport to Budapest as it is rather slow and no air conditioning. Also not very safe as some assaults have bern reported on its 50-minute ride to Bp. Take the train or bis, they are safe, clean and air conditioned.
