It's a big city. It is pretty safe but you need to be smart and self aware, you better be conscious about your environment. Apart from that nothing to worry about. There are a lot of helpful people, the locals are generally nice.
Posted: January 7, 2025Algeria is a very conserved place. We have a culture where women are protected and appreciated Yet there are some dummies who would flirt with you on the road but i don't think they would make a danger if you ignore them

Algeirs is like every country, no one is safe if you don’t pay attention for everything , for example you have to wear proper clothes ( not too revealing) and do not interact with strangers at night .

Algiers is mostly safe if we walk during daytime, after night it’s hard for us women to go out alone in certain areas so it’s important to be well informed beforehand, also street harassment is very frequent you should expect that often
Posted: December 27, 2024It’s very area dependent, « richer areas » like hydra or Sidi yahia are really safe whereas downtown you’d experience more sexual harassment and pickpockets. But overall it’s generally safe, just stay cautious and dress modestly
Posted: December 26, 2024Algiers is safe but you should know where to go an when to go out , I don’t recommend some places like el harach bab el oued and some other ones , and you have to dress modestly in certain places so you just need to know safe places

Alger is beautiful And as much safe as any other big city in the world were we go around confortably but we still prevent. Walking very night is not recommanded however walking early morning or by the sunset is very apreciated.
Posted: December 11, 2024Algiers is at a moderate level of safety. I wouldn’t advise staying out at night, because there are chances that you can be sexually harassed by men & keep an eye on your phone & wallet when strolling out.
Posted: October 26, 2024Algiers is an overall safe city. There are however some precautions to take especially in certain areas, it’s a Muslim country so it’s better to avoid light clothing. Nonetheless, during the day it’s completely okay to stroll especially downtown, however at night it’s better to be accompanied.

During day time, it's pretty safe if you stay in well populated areas and avoid the bad areas, you can commute safely without worrying at all whether on foot or in public transportation (beware of some pickpockets). It's generally not safe at all to take public transportation at night nor is it to walk outside after dark. It depends on the area though, some are very lively at night with great spots and restaurants and are pretty safe to be in but I would strongly suggest not going unless accompanied by a local who knows the safe places after dark. TLDR; Safety during day time: 8/10 (9.5/10 if you are in popular and well populated places) Safety during night time: 1/10 (just don't risk it, unless accompanied by a local)
Posted: March 22, 2024Safe. Beautiful. Affordable. You will enjoy your time. It's better to stay in the capital near the transport links. Bank cards aren't frequently used, so it's preferable to bring cash or exchange money upon arrival in Algeria. You're very welcome.
