The hostel i stayed at next to the train station really sucked, it was dirty and smelly with bugs, the dust hadnt been cleaned in forever and the area sucked, it was filled with creeps. The train station isnt the cleanest either. However Calea Victoriei was amazing, beautiful and really safe, filled with nice restaurants with good food and boutiques. it was a very touristy but pretty area. The national art museum is really awesome and cheap too. it has paintings from 1700-2000 featuring french, italian, romanian, spanish artists. It is huge. I also visited the Historic museum which has a replica of The Colosseum and toys and journals from the communist era which was very entertaining to see.
Posted: November 2, 2023Bucharest is very safe in my opinion, and very cheap as well. I felt safe even when I walked alone at around 1 a.m. in the night. Ticket museums and Uber were all cheap. Not everyone there knows how to speak English, but they do their best to help you even with the language barrier. Romanian hospitality is the best in Europe as far as the places I visited.
Posted: October 8, 2023I was on Bucharest solo last year and loved it. I just wandered around a lot, there is a lot to see and do organically. Lots of great food and drinks. There is a huge, gorgeous cemetery (Cimitirul Bellu) that I wandered for hours and Cismigiu Parc is also really beautiful. I took a day tour to Transylvania that was a little kitschy, but was an overall great day.
