Vinh isn't a highly touristic city, but it's very safe and inviting for solo female travelers. The locals are quite friendly and go the extra mile to help foreigners. Riding alone on a cyclo-rickshaw after dark is not advisable but otherwise, the city is safe even at night. Pickpocketing and motorbike theft are rare, but as in any city, sporadic cases can occur so it's advised to take care of personal belongings. Public transport is also generally safe for women.

Vinh isn't a major tourist city, so English speaking locals are not as common as other parts of Vietnam. Therefore, it may be a bit challenging to navigate initially. However, learn a bit of Vietnamese and you'll manage quite well. Streets are largely walkable and taxis are readily available. Some common tourist attractions are quite spread out though, so be ready for a bit of travel time between destinations.
