How safe is Haiphong?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Haiphong is generally safe, even for solo female travelers. Although the city tends to be peaceful at night, navigation might be tricky due to less street lighting compared to western standards. The locals are very friendly, and serious crime is rare. However, as with any other big city, it is advisable to exercise basic safety precautions, especially at night. Avoid walking alone in unpopulated areas or dark alleys, keep your belongings secure, and avoid showing off expensive jewelry or gadgets. Make sure to use licensed taxis for transportation and don't share them with strangers.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Haiphong is generally reliable and safe. Taxis, buses, and 'Grab' (a popular ride-hailing service in Southeast Asia) are easy to use. Always ensure that taxi drivers use a meter, or if you're using Grab, confirm the cost upfront. As a female traveler, it's also wise to avoid traveling alone at night and always let someone know your travel itinerary. While public transportation in Haiphong is generally safe, it's crucial to maintain awareness of your belongings at all times against petty threats such as pickpocketing.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Haiphong is generally quite welcoming and safe for female travelers. Street harassment is relatively uncommon, and incidents are sporadic. This does not mean that you will never face unsolicited attention, but it's less prevalent compared to other places in the world. However, it's always important to remain vigilant, be aware of your surroundings, and trust your instincts. Cultural nuances and individual interpretations may differ, but in general, solo female travelers have had positive experiences exploring this city.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Haiphong, like much of Vietnam, is generally considered safe for solo female travelers concerning petty crimes. You may encounter occasional pick-pocketing attempts or bag-snatching in crowded areas, but overall, people are friendly and respectful.
Tap water:

Tap water:Unsafe

In Haiphong, it is generally not recommended to drink tap water directly due to contamination risks. The local residents usually boil or use water purifiers to make it safe for drinking. While upscale hotels may have cleaner water supplies, it's safer to drink bottled water for your health protection.

United Kingdom

Solo travel experience

Haiphong is super safe and ypu bump into police pretty often. Kids are roaming around without adults so that should set most people's mind at ease. It's a smaller city north and quite easy access to the Hanoi (capital city) You can take coach, private transfer, or trains and ypu can reach it within 2 hours. Halong Bay is super famous and super close by about 30 mins ride. If you are feeling more adventurous head to Hanoi and do a Ha Giang or Ninh Binh tour. All very safe for solo females as I have done it before. You can go out at night without much of a worry but there's not alot of electricity outside of the city centre so roads can be dark. Haiphong is the coty for the nest vietnamese food and head to a any street stalls it will taste amazing
