based on 5 experiences from female travelers
In Hoi An I felt very safe. I was traveling with my partner, but some nights, when he was in need of a break and just wanted to relax, I would go by my self to explore and find some fresh snacks at the streetfood-markets. Loved it!

You will feel very safe and the locals will take care of you and offer to help if you look lost or confused. I recommend walking around the Old Town at sunset and having a decent budget for jewelry and accessories. Clothing is overpriced and same pieces can be found much cheaper in Saigon with the same quality. Jewelry and accessories are exception and recommend buying here instead. Try to barter but also pay fairly for the item given the quality.

I loved every part of my trip to Vietnam, but my stay in Hoi An was so special. I think it's the most beautiful town I've ever been to, the whole place smelled amazing. I got really excellent tailoring done as well!
Posted: February 7, 2024Experienced: August, 2023Hoi An is the most magical city I have ever been to. It's small, but there is so much to do. I took a bike trip to My Son Temple, did a basketboat ride in a neighboring village, went to the night market, and did a food tour.
Posted: January 1, 2024I spent a week in Hoi An, unfortunately during one of the busiest times of the year and it was not pleasant for me. I really tried, but this place resembled a crowded theme park, filled mainly with large groups of tourists from China. I did a few nice things, but still felt overwhelmed and simply uncomfortable.

Hoi An is generally very safe for (solo) female travellers. Locals are very welcoming and friendly and I've never experienced a situation where I felt I was in danger. I advise to take normal precautions such as paying more attention when alone at night time or going out to a bar by yourself.

Hello world ✨️ I'm Valentina, 28 years old. I had a nomadic upbringing with a German father and a Russian (from Kazakhstan) mother. After many years of moving I made Brussels my home — still I yearn to see and discover different parts of the globe and that's why I'm here. When I'm not travelling I'm reading, singing in my choir, hosting dinner parties, coming up with unusual inspirational ideas with friends and trying to make them into a reality. I love being surrounded by good people, which is what makes life, in my opinion, truly magical:)
