Safety:Very safe

Bialystok generally offers a safe environment for solo female travelers. As with any location, being mindful and conscious of your surroundings, especially at night, is important. Locals are typically friendly and willing to assist if needed, and common sense precautions like not displaying wealth and avoiding isolated areas at night should be taken. While instances of crime are not unheard of, they are generally less frequent, particularly against tourists. However, not everyone might speak English, so having a translation app is advisable.

Transport:Easy

Bialystok offers a fairly easy navigation for travelers. Walking around the city center is straightforward as most tourists attractions are within proximity. There's a good network of public transportation that includes buses and trams that are reliable and efficient. Bicycles are also commonly used by locals, and bike-sharing schemes are available. However, understanding the routes can be a bit challenging if you don't speak Polish.

Things to do:Moderate

Bialystok offers a unique mix of nature and culture. You'll find attractions such as the beautiful Branicki Palace, the Historical Museum, and the unique architecture of the Orthodox Church. Also, don't miss the opportunity to explore the Bialowieza Forest, known for its biodiversity. However, the overall diverse activities are less compared to bigger cities.

Food:Above average

Bialystok offers a decent variety of food, mostly traditional Polish cuisine. You can find places serving hearty soups, delicious pierogis, stuffed cabbage, and other local dishes. It's a paradise for meat and cheese lovers but might be less varied for vegetarians or vegans. Desserts, especially local pastries, are absolutely delicious. Restaurants often have cozy atmospheres, and staff are generally hospitable, though not all might speak English fluently. While not a top destination for food lovers, the quality of your meals is generally high.

Budget:Affordable

Bialystok is quite cost-effective for solo female travelers. The cost of food at local restaurants, transportation, and accommodations are much lower when compared to the other European cities. Cultural sites, museums, and attractions also have affordable entry fees, which provides an opportunity for rich experiences without breaking the bank.

Solo travel experience

It's a very safe place where you can start your first solo trip. If you are a backpacker like me, it's a really cheap destination to begin your travel journey. That's what I was doing - it's my first baby step. I felt very safe, didn't spend too much money, the food is delicious, locals are friendly. I really enjoyed it.
