Solo Female Travel in Podgorica

Podgorica, the capital and largest city of the south-eastern European country, Montenegro, is an intriguing explorative refuge nestled between five rivers—Moraca, Ribnica, Cijevna, Sitnica, and Zeta. Situated in the heart of Montenegro's fertile lowland region, it is known for its rich cultural diversity and an eclectic mix of architecture that reflects its turbulent history. Highlights include the centuries-old Clock Tower, marking the city’s old town, and the modern-looking Millennium Bridge. It offers an array of vineyards, unique eateries, lush parks, such as the Plantaze Vineyard, and the must-visit natural oasis, Lake Skadar - the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula. Furthermore, Podgorica's vibrant arts scene is perfectly displayed in the Center of Contemporary Art, turning this city into a perfect blend of old and new world charm.

Safety:Very safe

Podgorica is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. Crime rate is relatively low and locals are welcoming towards tourists. However, like any other city, it's important to remain cautious and attentive to your surroundings, especially during the night or in less crowded areas. It's advisable to stick to well-lit and frequented places, keep your belongings secure, and avoid disclosing you are traveling alone.

Transport:Easy

Podgorica is quite compact and relatively easy to navigate. The city has a mix of old and modern architecture, and landmarks are clearly marked, making it easier to orient yourself. While the city does not have an extensive public transportation system, it is still fairly efficient. Additionally, the locals are friendly and often willing to help should you need directions. Walking is also a feasible option for getting around, as destinations within the city are usually close to each other.

Things to do:Moderate

Podgorica has an intriguing selection of activities. While the city may not brim with tourist attractions compared to Europe's more popular destinations, it has a fair share of charms. Although a quieter city, it offers peace and a slower pace of life, ideal for travelers seeking relaxation. It has a number of parks, museums, and historical sites like St. George's Church, and Duklja ruins. The Moraca river that passes through provides opportunities to enjoy the scenery. If you enjoy exploring local cuisine, there's a variety of authentic Montenegrin food to try. This city's unique blend of old and new architecture is another point of interest for visitors.

Food:Above average

Podgorica offers a variety of local and international cuisine, with a strong influence from Mediterranean and Middle Eastern culture. There's a good balance between meat-based and vegetarian dishes. The local seafood and organic produce provide a rich flavor to their dishes. However, it might lack a bit of diversity in terms of Asian or American cuisine.

Budget:Affordable

Podgorica is relatively budget-friendly for travelers. Local transport, street food, and accommodation are quite affordable. Usually, tourists can have a good meal for a decent price, and local markets offer goods at a reasonable cost. Major attractions have minimal entrance fees. However, prices may climb slightly if you dine in upscale restaurants or stay in high-end hotels.

Solo travel experience

Podgorica is probably the most boring capital in Europe. In Montenegro, there are many other places that are much more interesting.
