Safety at night:Safe

Generally speaking, Tivat is a reasonably safe place for solo female travelers, even during the night. Like any place, certain precautions should be taken such as avoiding isolated areas at night. Well-populated and well-lit areas such as the marina and city center are quite safe to walk around. The crime rate is relatively low and unlike bigger cities, violent crime is rare. As always, be aware of your surroundings and use common sense about personal safety, but overall, Tivat presents a relatively safe environment, particularly compared to other cities.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Tivat is generally reliable and safe. Buses are the most common options for getting around and they are well-maintained. They also strictly follow their schedules. However, there might be language barriers on the bus as few drivers speak English. Also, like any other place, it's always sensible to keep a watch on your belongings throughout your journey.

Street harassment:Low

Tivat is generally a safe city with a welcoming attitude toward tourists. While minor incidents of street harassment can occasionally occur, they are rarely reported. Despite that, always be aware of your surroundings, especially when venturing out at night or in secluded areas. The locals are friendly and respectful to solo female travelers most of the time.

Petty crimes:Low

Tivat, a serene city in Montenegro, typically enjoys a low crime rate. However, as with any tourist destination, petty crimes like pickpocketing or purse snatching can occur, even though they're not common. Always take normal precautions like not flashing valuables or leaving belongings unattended.

Tap water:Safe

The tap water in Tivat is generally considered safe for drinking and cooking purposes. However, due to changes in water treatment in different areas, you might experience a slight gastrointestinal discomfort initially. It's always advisable to start with a bottle of commercial water before switching to tap water, just to give your system time to adjust. For a more cautious approach, you can boil tap water before consumption.

Tivat is a small town where I have absolutely no concerns about safety on the streets or in bars. People here are considerate and helpful. I have been living here for the second year, and I have never witnessed any violence, even in public transport, where I feel safe even at night.
