Safety:Very safe

Budva is generally safe for solo female travelers. Crime rate is relatively low and locals are hospitable. However, always exercise normal precautions such as being mindful of your belongings and avoiding poorly lit or deserted areas at night.

Transport:Easy

Budva is quite straightforward to navigate, being a smaller city. The Old Town, most beaches and other interesting spots are within walking distance from each other. There is also an efficient local bus service that goes around the town and to nearby towns. However, English is not widely spoken so it could be a bit challenging communication-wise, especially if you're trying to ask for directions.

Things to do:Interesting

Budva offers a wide array of activities which are ideal for a solo female traveler. Alongside the glorious Sunčani Skali beaches, the atmospheric Stari Grad (Old Town) and medieval Budva Citadel, the city provides ample opportunity to explore its rich history. The local cuisine and warm hospitality create a welcoming environment. There's an ample space to relax but also engage in adventurous activities such as hiking and water sports. However, while public transport connectivity can be improved, renting a car could be the ideal option to explore the surroundings at your own pace.

Food:Above average

The food in Budva is quite diverse and delicious. Local cuisine is a blend of Mediterranean flavors with Italian, Greek, and Turkish influences. You will find a wide range of seafood dishes due to its Adriatic coast. However, you can also enjoy traditional foods such as cevapi and burek. In addition to local cuisine, various international options are also readily available. So, if you're open to trying different kinds of cuisine, there is certainly something to tantalize your taste buds.

Budget:Moderate

Budva is moderately budget-friendly for solo female travelers. Accommodation costs can feel a bit high, especially during the peak season, but you can find reasonable prices with a bit of research. Eating out is reasonably priced, with a mix of high-end restaurants and cheaper diners to choose from. Transportation is quite affordable, and most attractions are either free or come at a minimal cost. It can be quite affordable if you plan ahead and spend wisely.

Solo travel experience

I am disabled and this is the first time in my travels that I have felt physically unsafe. I have had to pay very close attention when out going anywhere. They drive on sidewalks, don’t observe crosswalks and generally have no regards for pedestrians. It has been stressful for me to do anything due to feeling in physical jeopardy just walking with my cane. If you are not in a WC then you are not disabled. I move slow which seems to frustrate Montenegrins but it is what it is. They also smoke everywhere and at all times even on the bus, in the stores, literally everywhere is consumed with cigarette smoke, I have never smoked in my life and smoke causes my allergies to flare so I spend time decongesting myself from going to the store for groceries.

About Me

Hello, I’m Jemima. I’m a 30 year old living in London. I work in marketing. In my spare time, I enjoy live music, exploring bars and planning trips. I am also working on converting a micro camper to enable more travel. I have a cat, Chunky, who I hope will one day join me in the van. I am slowly learning Italian, as my dream trip is to travel through Europe but especially Italy. I have some disabilities: a neuromuscular disease and a neuroimmune disease, as well as ADHD. This limits my mobility somewhat. I am looking for travel buddies or visitors that do not mind taking things a bit slower, to accommodate this.
