Is Jakarta good for solo travel?

Safety:

Safety:Safe

Jakarta is generally a safe city for solo female travelers. The locals are amicable and willing to help should you need directions or recommendations. However, one should remain cautious and be aware of their surroundings, especially in crowded places to prevent pickpocketing. It is also advisable not to flaunt expensive belongings openly. As in any city of its size, certain areas are less safe, especially at night, and should be avoided. Travelers should also consider dressing modestly as it's a Muslim-majority city.
Transport:

Transport:Moderate

Navigating through Jakarta might present some challenges. While public transportation systems exist, they are often crowded, and the routes can be complicated for those not fluent in the local language. Taxis are plenty, but you'd better negotiate the price in advance or make sure the meter is on. Traffic congestion could be an issue during peak hours. Though, the city is quite pedestrian-friendly, especially in central areas. For farther distances, getting a ride from a local can be a popular choice.
Things to do:

Things to do:Interesting

Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, has a lot to offer in terms of activities. It boasts an impressive mix of modern urban activities along with historical sightseeing. Shoppers can explore Grand Indonesia or Plaza Indonesia for both high-end and indie brands. History enthusiasts can visit the old town, known as 'Kota Tua', which is brimming with Dutch colonial architecture. For someone seeking spiritual serenity, the iconic Istiqlal Mosque offers an immersive cultural experience. The vibrant city is also home to many world-class restaurants for food aficionados, and there's no shortage of local specialty dishes to try at street markets or traditional 'Warung' eateries. Despite the city's hustle and bustle, there are places like the Thousand Islands where nature lovers can watch the sunset and relax. However, Jakarta’s traffic is quite notorious, which can be a bit of a challenge.
Food:

Food:Excellent

Jakarta is indeed a culinary wonderland with a comprehensive variety of food from all over Indonesia and beyond. Not only is the food diverse, but it is incredibly mouthwatering and rich in flavors. Street food is plentiful and vendors are committed to maintaining traditional recipes. High-end options also abound, offering international as well as fusion cuisines. Regardless if you're a fan of spicy food, sweet dishes, or something in between, Jakarta is sure to satisfy your palate. Plus, vegetarian and vegan options are also increasing in the city.
Budget:

Budget:Affordable

Jakarta is considerably budget-friendly, especially when you adapt to local lifestyle. Street food is cheap and tasty, local travel is economical, particularly when using public transport or ride-hailing apps, and there is a decent range of budget accommodation options. Expensive parts tend to center around Western-style eateries and high-end shopping. However, it's possible to enjoy Jakarta's rich culture and historty on a low budget.

Is Jakarta worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

Alot of people told me there isnt anything in Jakarta but I still went ahead with a solo trip. The people in Jakarta are very friendly and helpful. I stayed in All Season Thamrin Hotel which is 10 mins walk to the malls . Thamrin City was my favourite as I could purchase cloths at wholesale price. I went to Jakarta old town and I love the peaceful surroundings. Jakarta has MRT but I didnt commute. Most of the time I used GoJek their private hirer and its really affordable. Their food is amazing dont forget to try their Jamu drink if you are visiting.

Is Jakarta safe for women?

Jakarta is a big capital modern city. Some parts of Jakarta has its pro and cons. Growing up in Jakarta born and raised taught me a lot about living experience as much as I still facing the world. Overall whenever we are, we must be careful about our own safety and use our feelings.

Its relatively safe depends on which part of the city you stay, in a nicer area it is definitely safe. Though walking around is rather more dofficult to do, more because we dont have enough proper pedestrian. Also walking on the street is not really comfortable as there will be many street vendors, or local people who can be a hit impolite (this is how i feel as a Jakarta girl, been living here my entire life 😃)
