Petty crimes such as pickpocketing, bag snatching, and theft are not uncommon particularly in crowded places. Public transportation can also be an area where you need to be cautious. It's recommended to stay alert, avoid unnecessary displays of wealth, and not walk alone at night in less crowded areas.

Riobamba is quite doable to navigate around. While not as streamlined as in some bigger cities, public transport is prevalent with several options including bus and taxi. The town is also walker-friendly with mostly flat terrain and easily identifiable landmarks. However, as English is not widely spoken, basic Spanish knowledge would be helpful.
