However, like in any other tourist destination, it's always recommended you stay alert, especially at night, and avoid remote and poorly-lit areas. It's best to stick to busy, well-lit areas and ensure you arrange a reliable ride home, rather than walking back to your accommodation alone late at night.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Ko Samui is relatively safe. Three main types of public transport are prevalent: taxi, songthaew (a truck-based public passenger vehicle), and motorbike taxis. They are fairly reliable and safe, but as always, stay alert and aware. The drivers are usually helpful. Just ensure that your taxi has a meter, or the price is agreed before your journey when using a songthaew or motorbike taxi. Last but not least, your safety can be further enhanced by using reputable transportation companies and avoid traveling late at night alone.

Street harassment:Low

Koh Samui, Thailand, generally offers quite a respectful environment for solo female travelers. Street harassment is relatively low. The Thai culture places a high emphasis on respect and going out of one's way to avoid conflict. As a foreign woman, you're unlikely to be the subject of any form of overt harassment. Just as with any travel, it's always good to stay alert and aware of your surroundings, but concerning street harassment, it's rarely an issue in Koh Samui.

Ko Samui is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. Petty crimes like pickpocketing or bag snatching are relatively minimal compared to other popular tourist destinations. However, always exercise caution and vigilance, especially in crowded areas and night markets.

Tap water:Unsafe

The tap water in Ko Samui is not generally recommended for drinking. The water often comes from ground water sources and may carry environmental contaminants. While it is usually okay for washing and bathing, it's typically advised to drink bottled water or boiled tap water to avoid any potential health risks.
