Safety at night:Safe

Jeju is generally considered a safe destination for solo female travelers even during nighttime. As with any other place in the world, it’s always important to take standard precautions such as sticking to well-lit areas, avoiding very late night strolls in desolate places, and staying aware of your surroundings. There is a low crime rate and local people are usually very helpful. However, it’s beneficial to have some Korean phrases prepared, as English isn't widely spoken.

Public transportation:Very safe

Public transportation in Jeju is extremely safe. There's an efficient bus system that frequently runs during the day which is very reliable and utilized by many locals and tourists. Taxis are also readily available and monitored by the government ensuring safety for passengers. All vehicles are generally well-maintained. While security incidents are uncommon, do exercise normal precautions such as keeping your personal belongings close to you. Women's safety is given a high priority in Korea, making the public transportation in Jeju very safe for solo female travelers.

Street harassment:Very low

Jeju is known for being a safe travel destination for women. One can easily wander around the streets day and night with minimal to no disturbance. The island culture is quite relaxed and respectful. The residents are often polite, making it a very safe environment for females who are sightseeing or traveling alone.

Petty crimes:Low

Jeju generally has a low level of petty crimes. The populace is friendly and respectful, always aiming to help foreign travellers. However, it's always important to exercise awareness of your surroundings, particularly in areas with heavy crowds or minimal public surveillance. Common sense and basic precautions can prevent most instances of personal theft.

Tap water:Safe

Tap water in Jeju is generally safe to drink. It undergoes rigorous quality tests and meets World Health Organization standards. But some travelers may prefer to avoid it due to different mineral compositions which may not suit everyone's digestive system. Hence, stick to bottled water if you have a sensitive stomach.

Couple travel experience

Even tho Jeju is super hot during August it is wonderful, colorful and absolutely beautiful. A must visit, especially if you or your friend/partner have a legal driving licence in korea, visit the Udo Island. We drove there with a boat, the island is very small and you can rent little cars for one day, drive around the island, drink some smoothies or go swimming.

Group travel experience

I went with two other friends and had a great time. I think its necessary to rent a car as all the attractions are pretty far apart. The buses are also not so frequent. I stayed in an airbnb at jeju city and loved it. However, most attractions are nearer to seogwipo city so i recommend that you stay near there instead. I also think good weather is extremely important to enjoy Jeju as almost everything is outdoors. The winds here are also very strong. I was lucky that only 1 of 4 days were rainy. On the rainy day it wasn’t fun as the winds were very strong and it was cold. The other days were great. I highly recommend Sunrise cliff (even if you’re not going in sunrise), udo island, sangbangsan mountain and Dongmun market (shopping).
