Is Taupo safe for solo female travelers?

Taupo overall is quite safe for solo female travelers. The crime rate is relatively low and cases of harassment are uncommon. It's predominantly a tourist town, where citizens are friendly and respectful towards tourists. As always, normal safety precautions like not traveling alone at night in unfamiliar areas are advised. Local police are helpful and responsive as well. Public transportation is reliable and it's safe to travel on foot during the day.
