Dunedin has felt quite safe, except for the occasional drunk and rowdy students. However, compared to other places I have been, they are much tamer. This can be a problem only very late into the night or early in the morning. In general, very safe and the people are quite helpful as well.

Dunedin is a safe, and friendly city. You can go out and night and be safe. If your concerned about not feeling safe then make sure you have your emergency number on hand (however I’ve never had to use this before)

A student city, dunedin (particularly North D) is very safe. It is very walkable and I don’t own a car. I feel perfectly safe on public transport and i’ve never been interrupted when walking around at night (except for the odd drunk bunch of students on a saturday night). Overall, incredibly safe city - ifeel safer here than in other nz cities such and akl or chc

I’m currently on exchange in Dunedin. I’m going to travel the North Island in July🌞 I’m studying engineering at DTU and live in a small dormitory. I love to connect with people while travelling and think couch surfing is a great way to do this. I’m love most sports, especially when they are outdoors🌱🌻
