Is Hermosillo Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Hermosillo, like many Mexican cities, can vary greatly in safety from area to area. Some areas can feel completely safe, vibrant, and friendly, especially during the day. However, some neighborhoods should be avoided, particularly at night. The city has a moderate rate of crime, though the violence is typically limited to certain areas or related to organized crime. It is important to stay informed about where you are and remain cautious, particularly when traveling alone.

How safe is Hermosillo?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Unsafe

Hermosillo, like many other urban cities, has areas that are safer than others. It's generally advised not to walk alone at night, especially in areas that are not well-lit or crowded. Although considerable improvements in security have been made, it's still important to be cautious. Always have a reputable transportation service arranged for nighttime travel, and avoid flashing valuable items, as they can attract unwanted attention.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Hermosillo is generally safe for solo female travelers. However, it's always a good idea to remain vigilant and mindful of your surroundings. The primary means of public transportation is buses, and they can often be crowded, especially during peak hours. Always try to travel during daylight hours and avoid empty buses or train cars. Also, taxis and ridesharing services like Uber are commonly used and trusted by locals.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora, is generally safe and street harassment is not prevalent. As a bustling city, it possesses a warm environment with welcoming locals who are typically respectful. However, just like in any other city, maintaining vigilance and respecting local norms can further minimize any possible encounters.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Hermosillo has a moderate risk of petty crime occurrences. Common incidences often include pickpocketing and purse snatching, especially in crowded areas such as markets, bus stations, or tourist destinations. It is advisable to always be vigilant of your belongings and avoid displaying valuable items in public.

Is Hermosillo worth visiting?

Is Hermosillo safe for women?

I have never experienced robbery or harassment, but being in Mexico, I do have friends who have experienced harassment. I think it is safe if you know someone from here and are passing through to the United States, for example, but I do not recommend being alone after 6 PM. Unfortunately, women's security here is not efficient.
