Is Almaty Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Almaty generally maintains a safe environment for solo female travelers. The local residents are friendly and there's a low crime rate, especially targeted towards tourists. However, like any other city, it's advised to be cautious while traveling at night and in less crowded areas. Also, it's recommended to be extra cautious while using public transport and always keep your belongings closely monitored. Language barrier may be an issue, hence learning a few basic phrases in the local language could be helpful. Like in many locations, it's beneficial to seem confident and to be aware of local customs and traditions.

Solo travel

I had an absolutely amazing time in Kazakhstan. It was my first ever solo trip and I can't brag enough about how beautiful, serene and untouched this country is. The people are so kind and friendly. I felt so much at ease and safe around the kind souls that I met at my journey. I had been to Almaty, kolsai, kaindy lakes, shymbulak mountain and every single place here is beautiful

Solo travel

I felt really safe and protected when I was around women. But the men behaved disgustingly — whistling after me, making comments, constantly hitting on me, even though I was dressed in full gorpcore style. The city itself is very beautiful and generally friendly, but I wouldn’t recommend going there alone.

I feel safe, because there are a lot of other people that also do it. You should take warm clothes, water, food, snacks, some sweets, maybe chocolate, spf, T-shirt, socks, good mood. No need to pay for entry or overnight stay, take everything with you, you just need to rent a tent and other accessories.

Family travel

in July 2023, my family and I flew to Kazakhstan (Almaty). This was my first trip. Although we did not visit many places, I really enjoyed this trip. Almaty has landscapes of incredible beauty, mountains, nature, fruits and berries grow right on the streets. The city itself is also very beautiful, because it has beautiful architecture and many garlands and lights, as well as many restaurants with live music, decorated with garlands and flowers. To be honest, I didn't really like the local...

It is vary safe for the people who are going to live and visit places in south part of city Pickpockets are rare or virtually non-existent. In shopping malls and food courts, you can leave your belongings on the table, and no one will touch them. You can ask people to keep an eye on your things while you go pick up your order, and nothing will get stolen—though this works primarily in the upper (southern) part of the city.

Overall, its a safe city with friendly locals. Everyone is ready to help other people, especially foreigners. Id say that its nice to be careful of local men, who want to talk to you and drive you through some places

I think city centre is safe because it is well lit and I wouldn’t be scared of anything, but same cannot be said for the outskirts of the city. I think main reason for that is there are video surveillance and lack of lights.
