I felt myself safe, but i didn't walk alone during nights, only during a daylight. There aren't that many attractions to visit, but I felt myself more calm there. After being surrounded by city noise for a long time, I felt like Kokshetau was a calming reset place for me.
Posted: April 17, 2025Experienced: February, 2025I loved Kazakhstan and with a clear heart I can recommend it. Almaty and Astana are amazing cities, and the Tien Shan mountains are astounding. People in Kazakhstan are also some of the friendliest I have ever met, and I felt so safe there.
Posted: December 26, 2023in July 2023, my family and I flew to Kazakhstan (Almaty). This was my first trip. Although we did not visit many places, I really enjoyed this trip. Almaty has landscapes of incredible beauty, mountains, nature, fruits and berries grow right on the streets. The city itself is also very beautiful, because it has beautiful architecture and many garlands and lights, as well as many restaurants with live music, decorated with garlands and flowers. To be honest, I didn't really like the local cuisine, since I'm not a fan of spices and fatty foods (this is purely my personal opinion), but some dishes were really tasty, and, importantly, everyone in Kazakhstan is served in large portions ;) What As for prices, for me, being a Russian, the prices were quite amazing, since everything here costs 2-3 times lower than in Russia (I even managed to bring a whole suitcase of snacks and drinks lol ). I also want to note that Kazakhstan has a rather warm climate, I can’t stand the heat, but here it felt much more pleasant, and we also lived in an observatory on a mountain, which helped us escape the heat. We visited the famous Medeo and climbed 842 steps, terribly tired, but admired the beautiful views. We also went up the funiculars to Kok-Tube, where we visited the zoo, fed the animals, and also visited the amusement park there. Not far from this place we also went to the cinema. We also visited the Butakovsky waterfall, where we were able to fully experience and see the beauty, and also take many beautiful photos. We also visited an open water park and a market. Also we visited the park of the first president, where we just walked, ate ice cream and admired the viewsWe had such a short but eventful vacation, I liked everything very much and I would like to visit Almaty again ♡
Posted: June 18, 2023Experienced: June, 2022I spent the whole day walking around Almaty and although the city is small, there is a lot to see. I downloaded the izi.travel app, which is like an audio guide. It really helped me navigate through the city, as there was no proper "city center". Additionally, when I reached a specific place, the app would turn on, telling me about its historical background.
Posted: April 2, 2023I traveled alone to Kazakhstan and spent 1.5 days in Astana (I didn't like it), then I took a night train all the way to Almaty, where I stayed for almost a week. There are plenty of things to do around. Many day trips to beautiful places. Safe. Relatively cheap. I really liked it in Almaty.
Posted: March 25, 2023I adored Kazakhstan. I was there only for 4 days, so I didn't see much. I organized private one-day trips to Charyn Canyon and the large Almaty Lake; the tours were quite expensive. Regarding safety, I felt absolutely safe, but I was told to avoid the areas around the Green Bazaar at night. The metro in Almaty works very well and is super cheap.

Posted: July 6, 2022Astana is a new city, built specifically as the capital. We spent one night in Astana and that was enough. I recommend visiting the mosque and the tower. About 1.5 hours from Astana is a former gulag (for women and children) - we hired a driver to take us there.

The city is actually very safe, especially if you’re walking around the left bank. Of course, like in any other city, it’s good to stay a bit cautious, but overall it feels very safe. The right bank can be a bit less safe, especially late at night and on the outskirts.
Posted: April 17, 2025I would say it's usually very safe near Expo park, in Esil neighborhood overall. But it's very dark and unsafe in other parts of Astan, and i wouldn't dare to walk alone at night. At some parts I could get robbed, but I have to truly try my best to find those areas.

Hi everyone. My name is Arailym. I'm 26. Currently I live in Oskemen, Kazakhstan, and I graduated from the Kazakh-American Free University. I come from Katonkaragay village in East Kazakhstan, located in one of the most beautiful national parks in our country. It’s home to the magical Mount Belukha, which is popular among many spiritual seekers who visit it to find harmony and restore their energy. I lived there for 18 years, and it’s a truly beautiful place. Every summer, I visit my grandparents there. I enjoy mushroom hunting, though my family usually goes to the mountains to gather berries, which I avoid due to my allergies. I love learning new things and always try to find ways to improve myself. During my school years, I took dombyra (a Kazakh traditional musical instrument) classes for five years. One of my favorite quotes is: “Compare yourself to who you were yesterday.” I strive to live by it. I visited Germany last April. It was the very first country I ever visited and, of course, an unforgettable experience. I was there for 1 month. I had a chance to visit Neuschwanstein castle, Füssen, München. I lived mainly in Zwickau (Sachsen). I had a chance to visit the beautiful city — Salzburg, Austria. The home of Mozart. I also visited Basel, Switzerland. All thanks to Deutsche Bahn ticket. It's so great I wish other countries had something similar. With friends we also visited Paris, Milan, Rome, and Barcelona. We spent 1 or 2 days in each city. Too little time to explore, but we visited the most famous places. This summer I am going to go to the USA for International Leadership Experience. It's part of KAFU program. I will go with a friend. We would like to visit New York, Boston, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Denver. I would be thrilled to find people who could host us for a day or 2.
