In the center is quite safe. I wouldn't suggest u to go to suburbs at night alone. However i always feel very safe here and walk alone after dark a lot. Moreover i go out with girls and its totally fine.
Posted: February 4, 2025I wouldn’t say that it’s the safest place in the world and also it’s not that dangerous too. I feel like as a girl at this point going out at night won’t be safe at any country. And knowing basic safety precautions is a plus. Normally no one would harass you if you are walking from somewhere in the evening, especially in the city. But staying alert is a must. You never know crazy people. Almaty is fairly safe space, you won’t see anyone fighting or getting mugged normally.
Posted: February 3, 2025up of the city is usually safe. Almaty is safe, just try to not go out alone at night. try to book hotel/hostel in upper city. make friends, stay tuned. upper city is also more beautiful due to mountains.

Almaty is quite a safe place. But I would recommend to stay in vicinities that are closer to center especially at night. Police react rapidly, so there is no danger during a day. I would recommend to keep your belongings tight in public transport. I wouldn’t go to the suburbs of the city alone .

It’s safe overall if you stay in the city center. There is nothing to do outside of town, so you will probably stay inside the center anyway. It’s safe and you can travel and book freely, but use trusted services and don’t believe every man you see. There are lots of kids and couples, so overall you will feel safe
Posted: December 25, 2024I study and live in Almaty for 3 years. As a young woman I’ve never seen harassment. People always ready to help. But of course I don’t recommend walk at night alone and be careful with belongings on bus. My belongings never had been stolen. But anyways be careful
Posted: November 10, 2024Almaty is a very safe place during a daytime but it can be a bit dangerous during the night because of all drunk people around the public transport is very safe and there are some nice public transport available. Also you can use taxi apps like Yandex Go, which is pretty safe even at night.
Posted: October 8, 2024Almaty is pretty much safe for a solo female traveler. Even though some streets at night could be dark due to lack of street lighting, my experience is that the city is pretty much safe if avoid some neighborhoods that are far from central area of the city.
Posted: July 20, 2024in July 2023, my family and I flew to Kazakhstan (Almaty). This was my first trip. Although we did not visit many places, I really enjoyed this trip. Almaty has landscapes of incredible beauty, mountains, nature, fruits and berries grow right on the streets. The city itself is also very beautiful, because it has beautiful architecture and many garlands and lights, as well as many restaurants with live music, decorated with garlands and flowers. To be honest, I didn't really like the local cuisine, since I'm not a fan of spices and fatty foods (this is purely my personal opinion), but some dishes were really tasty, and, importantly, everyone in Kazakhstan is served in large portions ;) What As for prices, for me, being a Russian, the prices were quite amazing, since everything here costs 2-3 times lower than in Russia (I even managed to bring a whole suitcase of snacks and drinks lol ). I also want to note that Kazakhstan has a rather warm climate, I can’t stand the heat, but here it felt much more pleasant, and we also lived in an observatory on a mountain, which helped us escape the heat. We visited the famous Medeo and climbed 842 steps, terribly tired, but admired the beautiful views. We also went up the funiculars to Kok-Tube, where we visited the zoo, fed the animals, and also visited the amusement park there. Not far from this place we also went to the cinema. We also visited the Butakovsky waterfall, where we were able to fully experience and see the beauty, and also take many beautiful photos. We also visited an open water park and a market. Also we visited the park of the first president, where we just walked, ate ice cream and admired the viewsWe had such a short but eventful vacation, I liked everything very much and I would like to visit Almaty again ♡
Posted: June 18, 2023Experienced: June, 2022I spent the whole day walking around Almaty and although the city is small, there is a lot to see. I downloaded the izi.travel app, which is like an audio guide. It really helped me navigate through the city, as there was no proper "city center". Additionally, when I reached a specific place, the app would turn on, telling me about its historical background.
