Safety index

Safety at night:Safe

Tel Aviv-Yafo is generally considered safe for solo female travelers, including during nighttime hours. The city is well-lit, busy and full of life even late into the night. However, it is always advisable to remain vigilant, stay in populated areas, and be aware of your surroundings. Cases of petty crimes such as theft or pickpocketing exist, but violent crimes against tourists are relatively rare. Of course, like any other cities, there are neighborhoods that are safer than others. A good rule of thumb is to avoid isolated areas and always trust your instincts. Also, it's good to let someone know where you are, especially if you plan on having a late-night outing.

Public transportation:Safe

In Tel Aviv-Yafo, public transportation is generally reliable and safe. With a well-organized bus network, abundant taxis, and a bike-sharing system, it's easy to get around. There is also a common practice of shared taxis ('sheruts') functioning as minibuses. Additionally, the launching of the city's light rail system has improved ease and safety of travel. However, like in any cities worldwide, always be aware of your surroundings, especially during crowded times when pickpocketing can occur.

Street harassment:Low

Tel Aviv-Yafo is a modern, cosmopolitan city in Israel known for its generally liberal attitude and friendly locals. Street harassment incidents are rare, and women can generally walk in the streets without being subjected to unwelcome attention or comments. Of course, it's always important to stay aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or at night. Travelers are usually more likely to experience attempts at overcharging or other types of tourist scams than street harassment. Regardless, a visit to Tel Aviv can be a wonderfully rich cultural experience, and reasonably comfortable for solo female travelers.

Petty crimes:Low

Tel Aviv-Yafo generally has a lower risk of petty crime such as purse-snatching or pickpocketing compared to many major cities around the world. However, as it is a vibrant city that often attracts tourists, certain areas may have occurrences of such crimes. Always be aware of your surroundings, especially in busy markets and while using public transportation. It's recommended to take standard precautions by not displaying valuable items openly and being cautious of your belongings particularly in crowded areas.

Tap water:Safe

Tap water in Tel Aviv-Yafo is generally considered safe to drink. The water undergoes rigorous treatment processes and adheres to high national standards. However, due to differences in water processing, the taste might be different from what you are used to, and some travelers prefer to opt for bottled water.

I felt safe, because I visited my friend who had already lives there for several years. But I’m not sure the feeling would be the same if you visit it by yourself. I was there 5 days and my program was prepared before. I visited Jerusalem in the morning, the sea in afternoon and techno at night. The trip had really tight schedule. It was nice, because we had a car, without it using the local transport it would be impossible. You always can find where to go, because of long history land, full of stories and new impacts. I spent not much money, because I was visiting a friend, that’s why I didn’t need it. But prices are extremely high.

Solo travel experience

I traveled alone and felt very safe. The market in Carmel was wonderful, I ate delicious falafel there and it is cheaper than in restaurants. Sarona Market was a bit more expensive, but also nice. I stayed in Abraham Hostel and I have very nice memories from there, as they even organized a communal dinner for Shabbat. Additionally, during Shabbat, public transport does not operate and it is really hard to move around the city.

Is Tel Aviv-Yafo safe for women?

Tel Aviv is very safe. First there are always people outside so you most of the time won’t find yourself alone in the streets. People are kind and will always help you. There’s sometimes homeless like every big city but most of the time there are ok and not causing any trouble.

I've lived my whole life in Tel aviv and since the age of 12, I've been out and about at all times of the day and night. I have always felt very safe and so have my parents. It is common for kids, teens, woman to walk around alone at all time including past dark.

I was lucky visiting israel before current events (no political comment here.) Probably one of the nicest places i've been. Not like a typical middle eastern city. Some travellers actually say its middle eastern-california lol. I stayed at jungle jaffa hostel and i wont stay anywhere else if i go again. It was one of the main things that made tel aviv such an experience. Old jaffa is a must see and beach is a real gem. They are at the same place already. Everywhere is walking distance. I didnt use uber even once Because airport is accessible too. Only fault about Tel aviv was it wasnt budget friendly... I ate my meals at hostel (which was included during summer) but 50cl beer was around 10 shekel (2.5€), a cocktail at a cheap bar 20 shekel, breakfast with omelette 50 shekel. Other than that Tel aviv is a living city, techno parties last whole weekend, beach is not crowded but alive, population is young and traveler friendly
