How safe is Iraq?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Very unsafe

Iraq is a country with various safety issues, particularly for solo female travelers. Walking alone at night is not advised due to the chance of becoming a victim of crime, varying local customs, or encountering political unrest. Security is unpredictable and can escalate from calm to dangerous quickly, particularly after dark. Always stay alert and vigilant.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Unsafe

Public transportation in Iraq can be quite a challenge, particularly due to the lack of regulations and the overall condition of vehicles. With unpredictable road traffic and occasional political instability, travelers should be aware of the risks involved. Furthermore, buses and trains do not offer high standards of comfort and reliability. Nonetheless, many locals use these services daily, demonstrating that they can be navigated successfully with awareness and caution. Private transport options are generally considered safer and more reliable. It's suggested to always stay vigilant and be acquainted with your surroundings while traveling.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:High

Solo female travelers might face a significant amount of street harassment, ranging from prying eyes to unsolicited comments and advances. However, this could drastically differ based on the city and the area. Public spaces are often male-dominated, and foreign women might draw more attention. It's advisable to dress modestly, following local customs, and try to blend in as much as possible.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:High

Iraq, especially in urban areas, tends to have a significant issue with petty crimes like pickpocketing, purse snatching, and bag slashing, particularly in crowded places and public transports. Even though the security situation has improved somewhat, it's still necessary to stay vigilant and cautious. Keep your belongings secure and never leave them unattended. Try to blend in as much as possible and avoid showing any expensive items that might attract thieves.

Iraq, Solo travel

As a solo traveler, i challenged myself with a trip to an oriental and exotic place. Iraq. I visited only the kurdish part of the country and i felt relatively safe: you will not encounter many women in public places but dont mind the men looking they’re just a little surprised. But believe me they’re happy to have tourists visit them and interact with them. Every day is an adventure ☺️

Baghdad

There are areas that are very populated and obviously ok to walk in because you see much crowd or much shops for example. But for example, I wouldn't say it's so safe for a girl to walk in an unknown area at night by herself when the if that area doesn't have people walking around or crowds.

Baghdad

Moderately safe actually but i think it's a little bit scary in the dark nights and small alleys but overall main streets are good to walk in even in the dark ! Transport is actually depending on the people themselves you get in with but still moderately safe tho , Hope y'all stay safe wherever you go .
