Is Denmark Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Denmark is a remarkably safe destination for solo female travelers. The crime rate is very low and locals are renowned for their friendliness and helpfulness. There's an excellent public transportation system which functions efficiently even late at night, and it's generally safe for women to walk alone. However, as with any travel, keep basic precautions in mind like avoiding less crowded areas during late hours and not displaying your valuables publicly.

How safe is Denmark?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Denmark is usually a very safe country to travel in, even at night. Danish cities, especially Copenhagen, are known for their low level of violent crime and tourists rarely experience any problems. However, like in any city, it's always advised to be aware of your surroundings, especially when walking alone at night. It's best to avoid isolated areas and walk confidently. Public transportation is safe and reliable during the night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Public transportation in Denmark, including buses, trams, trains, and metros, is generally safe even for solo female travelers. They are reliable, well-lit, and most of the commuters are respectful. Danish people are also typically helpful to tourists who need directions. Although, like anywhere else, it's important to remain aware of your surroundings, especially during night hours.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Denmark is known for its strong emphasis on equal rights and respect for all individuals. Whilst no place is entirely immune to street harassment, many solo female travelers in Denmark report very rare instances of harassment, indicating it is not a common experience in this country. This largely safe environment can be attributed to the local culture that values politeness and personal space. However, like any other places, caution and personal safety measures are always recommended.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Denmark is generally a very safe country to visit. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing and bag snatching do occur, but they are not prevalent. They mostly happen at busy transport hubs or tourist-centric areas. As with any travel destination, it is always a good idea to take reasonable precautions and be aware of your surroundings.

Copenhagen, Couple travel

I was in Copenhagen before Christmas with a friend, the city was totally safe! But we felt like there are not much to do! Though we enjoyed the time we had there! From Xmas decorations, Tivoli gardens and we took a guided boat tour through the canals. We walked everywhere and only used the train from/to airport. We also went on a day trip to Malmö which I don't really recommend if you don't have plans what to do there! It was boring for us really! The food was great, especially the burgers and the cardamom pastries were so special! Also the vanilla cookies were amazing! We stayed at Steel House Hostel and got a room with views to the canals for 30 Euors a night! The hostel was very clean and provided great amenities for the price!

Copenhagen, Solo travel

Copenhagen was always a bucket list city for me, and as one of my first soli travel destinations I really enjoyed it! I stayed at NextHouse Copenhagen, which was a lot fancier (and priced accordingly) than hostels I was used to in other cities. Had I found a cheaper alternative, NextHouse would probably not have been my first choice, but it is an excellent “luxury hostel” that offers a very social atmosphere, group events, lots of in-house entertainment (gym, games, social nights) and is very accessible to the center of the city. The highlights of my stay were exploring Freetown Christiania (free) and visiting the Museum of Architecture (6€ entry). I recommend trying some local food as well, I know Nordic food often gets a bad rap in terms of blandness but Danish food offers lovely variations on pickled & preserved fish/veggies.

I did my very first experience as couch surfer while i was travelling alone and I felt completely safe!! I loved the experience. Copenhagen is a very tidy and cleaned city, full of young people and full of things to do!! Many ways to enjoy the city.

Aarhus, Family travel

It was pretty safe, it's a cute charming calm city. I recommend the deer park to the south of the city, with the beach next door it's a great walk. The museum not to be missed is the ARoS museum, a museum of contemporary and classical art visible from all over the city with its rainbow panorama. And don't forget to pass by the nice latin neighborhood.

I didn't feel absolutely safe in Denmark. Once we went to one bar on the advice of an employee of the hotel where we were staying and there were a lot of prohibited substances and some shady people there. overall a wonderful city.

Copenhagen

I won’t say that Copenhagen is 100% safe, because no place is and as a woman.. unfortunately.. there will be the creeps, the cat calling etc. however I will say that I feel safe here most of the time and has in my 5 years here only experienced something that made me feel unsafe a couple of times. Overall I don’t think twice about going for a walk at night or go for a run in the early mornings.

Randers

Ofc There will always be some people who create trouble. But overall it's not that bad here. There are no riots, you can easily walk home in the dark. Or get on a train or bus alone here. Of course we have an area here in the city, but it's so far away from the city center that you can't get there anyway.
