Is Denmark Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Denmark is a remarkably safe destination for solo female travelers. The crime rate is very low and locals are renowned for their friendliness and helpfulness. There's an excellent public transportation system which functions efficiently even late at night, and it's generally safe for women to walk alone. However, as with any travel, keep basic precautions in mind like avoiding less crowded areas during late hours and not displaying your valuables publicly.

How safe is Denmark?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Denmark is usually a very safe country to travel in, even at night. Danish cities, especially Copenhagen, are known for their low level of violent crime and tourists rarely experience any problems. However, like in any city, it's always advised to be aware of your surroundings, especially when walking alone at night. It's best to avoid isolated areas and walk confidently. Public transportation is safe and reliable during the night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Public transportation in Denmark, including buses, trams, trains, and metros, is generally safe even for solo female travelers. They are reliable, well-lit, and most of the commuters are respectful. Danish people are also typically helpful to tourists who need directions. Although, like anywhere else, it's important to remain aware of your surroundings, especially during night hours.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Denmark is known for its strong emphasis on equal rights and respect for all individuals. Whilst no place is entirely immune to street harassment, many solo female travelers in Denmark report very rare instances of harassment, indicating it is not a common experience in this country. This largely safe environment can be attributed to the local culture that values politeness and personal space. However, like any other places, caution and personal safety measures are always recommended.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Denmark is generally a very safe country to visit. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing and bag snatching do occur, but they are not prevalent. They mostly happen at busy transport hubs or tourist-centric areas. As with any travel destination, it is always a good idea to take reasonable precautions and be aware of your surroundings.

Copenhagen, Solo travel

Copenhagen is very very safe even after dark. I never felt unsafe nor threatened in this city. The public transportation here is TOP TIER! The metros interval is less than 3 min. It is a very pretty city but I wouldn't recommend going there in the fall. The weather was too hard harsh for me to enjoy my whole trip.

Copenhagen, Solo travel

I was in Copenhagen for almost a week by myself - i felt safe but was not out late. The transportation by bus is okey, but regret not renting a bike. Go to the museums - the K1 was amazing! Did a lot of trifting and it was a little overpized and curated for my taste.

My trip to Copenhagen was amazing! I fell in love with the city from the moment I arrived! The city was very clean and beautiful. I felt safe during the night walk (around 9-10 pm) and didn’t see any weird people around the center. The weather was a bit windy but it didn’t ruin the experience I had. Highly recommended for solo travelers 🫶

Bornholm, Solo travel

I was on Bornholm for only two weeks and it was very beautiful. I do have to say that especially in winter…there is not a lot to do since the touristic season hasn’t yet begun. It is a super super beautiful place and I don’t think you will find any place in which you feel safer than there. It is calm and relaxing but there is quite a lot of cool attractions to see. I recommend a bike to get around. There are a lot of beautiful bike trails throughout the island.

Copenhagen was the first place I did my fully solo trip, and it was a learning experience! Great city! Walkable and nice vibe! Felt safe everywhere, but I was mostly in the city centre! Great people, good food, lovely pastries 🍰

Copenhagen, Group travel

The city itself was kinda safe, but it was necessary to avoid some shady parts of the city. In the dark, there were some groups shouting on the streets, probably drunken tourists. I personally went to Christiania, which, to a solo traveler, felt sometimes scary. I got cat called once there. But it seemed like a group of male tourists who went there just to get high.

Went to Denmark for a workation and it’s been perfect! Nice weather, close to the sea, and lots of sweet places. Best here definitely the nature but second stores also convince although they are a bit overpriced.

Copenhagen is a beautiful and very safe city. I recommend seeing as much as possible and trying the cinnamon rolls and kardamomo rolls. I stayed in a hostel with private bathrooms and a high-up view of Copenhagen. We got around on foot to see as much as possible and explore the city's hidden corners.

Great place with a lot to do. Was for a couple of days and loved it. Great public transportation and felt very safe.. the only downside is that it can be quite expensive. At least 2 days are needed to see most of the city

Copenhagen

Copenhagen is a safe and beautiful city with high security. You should of course always think smart if you are on your own. There will always be idiots. But I have never had any bad experiences in my lovely hometown <‘3

I ask strangers to watch over my things if I have to use the bathroom, I can walk alone / use public transportation at night without the slightest fear that something may happen, you can dress however you like and still not have to worry.

About Me

Hi there, I’m a 27 year old mom to a 1 year old all pro the girlies! I just learned about this app and I’m loving it!! I don’t travel much at the moment but if one of you ladies need a safe space to stay at visiting Denmark, feel free to text me! I have a safe place to sleep, shower, eat, relax, whatever you wanna do. If I have the time or am able to take the time, I’ll take you for a trip to the capitol too (which is only 30 mins by train from here). I’ll show you all the fun stuff and the tourist need to see. But I also know Copenhagen well enough to know the hidden gems. I’m fluent in Danish and English and learning Portuguese/spanish so I know maybe 10% of that.. Portuguese is the Brazilian version for me (Because apparently Duolingo think it’s the same) but my boyfriend is fluent in Portuguese from Portugal and teaching our daughter.

About Me

Hiii My name is Sinem, I'm 20 years old and currently living in Lithuania as an Erasmus student. I’m originally from İzmir, Turkey, and I study Mechanical Engineering. I’ve always loved exploring new countries and learning about different cultures, which is why I enjoy using Couchsurfing — I believe meeting and talking with locals helps me understand a place in a much deeper and more authentic way. Over the past month and a half, I’ve had the chance to travel to Latvia, Sweden, Estonia, and Finland. I’m a curious person who’s always eager to learn new things, and I’d love to share my culture while discovering others’. Friends describe me as polite, respectful, and easy to get along with. I’m really looking forward to making meaningful connections along the way!
