Safety at night:Safe

Salento is relatively safe at night, but like any other destination, certain precautions should still be taken. The town itself is small and typically filled with tourists, which brings a sense of safety. The locals are friendly and generally look out for tourists. However, it is not recommended to walk alone late at night, especially in less crowded or poorly lit areas. Crime can happen, and it could be targeted at tourists, so opt for taxis or walking in groups instead if possible.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Salento is generally safe and reliable. Busses and colectivos run regularly between the region's major cities and tourist attractions. However, it's recommended to avoid traveling at night and always keep a close eye on your belongings, just as you would anywhere else. It's important to note that while these vehicles are fairly safe, there can still be minor incidents of pick-pocketing. As a solo female traveler, just ensure to be cautious and aware of your surroundings, particularly in larger crowds.

Street harassment:Low

Salento is generally a safe town to tour around, and it's quite welcoming for solo female travelers. Of course, like anywhere in the world, it's suggested to maintain common safety precautions such as not walking alone late at night and staying vigilant of your surroundings. However, the instances of street harassment in Salento are relatively low in comparison to other places.

Petty crimes:Low

Tap water:Moderate

As a general rule, bottled or treated water is recommended for consumption to avoid potential stomach discomfort or illness from possible contamination. Solo travel experience

I went to Salento and I had a great time there. I participated in a coffee farm tour, hiked through the Cocora Valley, visited Filandia and went horse riding. I felt really safe and met other travelers. Around 2:00 pm every day there was heavy rainfall, but there were plenty of charming cafes where you could take shelter. Salento is a great place for adventures, beautiful landscapes, and fresh air.
