This is a very safe part of the world in terms and of crime, to the extent that people were comfortable leaving their iPhones on a sunbed and going for a swim or wandering off for half an hour. Everyone on the island knows everyone, it has a beautiful small community vibe. The local men are genuinely very friendly to all visitors but often try their luck with solo female travellers and on more than one occasion would try to put their arm around me or another female.
