It's nestled between the majestic Gjere mountains and the resplendent Drino river, providing breathtaking panoramic views. Gjirokaster is renowned for its historic castle - Gjirokaster Castle, one of the largest in the Balkans, offering a rich repository of antiquities and museums that narrate inspiring tales of the city's past. It's also known for its cultural significance, hosting the National Folklore Festival, a colorful showcase of traditional Albanian music, dance, and crafts.

Gjirokaster

Gjirokaster is a hilltop old town in Albania. It's small and easy to navigate. The streets are charming with a pretty bazaar. I had a wonderful stay at the Old Town Hotel which was very inexpensive with beautiful views from the terrace. I loved walking up to the castle for stunning views of the town. The town has numerous options for cheap food and drink and feels lively and vibey. I also enjoyed the Cold War Tunnel tour.
