Expat Women in Ireland

We are a friendly community of international women living in Ireland who connect and make friends. We welcome expats, students who study abroad, Erasmus participants, and anyone living far from home.

About me

Dia dhuit! (Hello!) I’m Kt, born in a small town in Ireland and now living in Galway. The older I get, the more I’m pulled towards travel, adventures, and meeting like-minded people. Hopefully, somewhere along the way I’ll stumble into a few life-long friends (and maybe a few stories worth telling). I’ve got dogs – they are my absolute everything. I’ll warn you now, I will talk about them far too much, but sure, what else are dogs for if not being doted on? Books are another weak spot of mine. Give me anything with fantasy, horror, scary futures, or a dash of history, and I’m happy. Some of my heroes are Stephen King, Orwell, Huxley… the usual gang of “let’s make your brain feel weird.” When it comes to films, I lean hard into horror, thrillers and sci-fi – The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, Psycho… or if it’s spacey and existential like Alien, Blade Runner or 2001: A Space Odyssey, I’m there with popcorn in hand. Graphic novels? Locke & Key, Sandman and Wytches scratch that itch nicely. Music is life. First love is metal, always will be, but honestly, if it’s got a rhythm, I’m moving. My playlists are a pure disaster but an enjoyable one – one minute it’s Irish trad, then Iron Maiden, then Wu-Tang, Sabbath, Etta James, The Beach Boys, Chemical Brothers and Thin Lizzy. Basically, chaos. But the good kind. I live for gigs – big or small – you’ll find me singing and flailing about until I’ve lost my voice. I’m rare in Ireland in that I don’t drink (never have, nothing dramatic), but don’t get me wrong, I love a good bar, great atmosphere, and good people. I even bartend in Galway in a lovely little place called Tigin (small house) and manage the guest house above it. But I’m just as happy staying in, dogs at my feet, shoving bread in my face, watching telly, and being fat and sassy. I’m always making something – clothes, jewelry, random bits, and pieces out of scraps. Love being outside, too, feet in the grass, foraging, collecting, and noticing little things that feel magical. I take pictures sometimes but mostly just for myself. I’m filled with stories and scribbles – always carrying a notebook, always a bit half in the real world, and half away with the fairies. I’m a walking contradiction, reallying – a realist who dreams too big. I love history, mythology, and folklore. Growing up in Ireland, it’s everywhere, and it stuck to me. I’m basically a mountain of beautiful but mostly useless information. I love an adventure, trying new things, pushing myself past comfort. 420 friendly. My “spirit animal” is Jabba the Hutt… and that probably tells you everything you need to know about me. That is all. Good day!

About me

I’m a graduate student doing a master’s in analytical chemistry. Outside of that, I spend a lot of time at the gym 🏋️‍♀️, listening to music 🎧 , and around animals whenever I get the chance. I’ve always wanted to see the world but kept waiting for friends to go with—until I realized I could just go myself. Now, I’m figuring out solo travel, one trip at a time. I’m into good food, matcha spots, and interesting architecture. Mostly just looking to explore new places at my own pace and see what’s out there.

Is Ireland safe for women?

Killaloe

Been staying here on & off across 2 years. The most “dangerous” it gets is Aldi on a school day at lunch time when the children swarm the store for snacks. Sometimes the little old ladies at the bus stop are overly friendly but I think they are just curious about me and bored waiting on the bus.

Galway

Galway is a very safe city. People are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed, so it’s easy to feel comfortable here. Even at night, the streets are generally calm and secure, which makes Galway a great place to stay.
