Riga Old Town is a charming place to live, especially the “Embassy District”. Overall, I have very little complaints about living here. There’s the occasional homeless person but I don’t see them nearly as much as when living in London

Old Riga is a wonderful place to be! It's always buzzing, it truly never sleeps. The area is saturated with tourists and locals alike, because the area is truly beautiful, it is right in the heart of Riga as well. It contains countless café's, restaurants, shops, museums, bars, churches, anything you could want in one place. After the sun sets, you can see how the city parties! Every bar is filled with smiles from tourists and locals alike. The most active street is Grēcinieku iela - Sinners street in direct translation. This is the only time/place I'd regard a bit dangerous, because drunk people can get rowdy, but If you don't go around swinging, they won't disturb you at all :)
Posted: January 20, 2025I would say pretty safe. There are a few homeless people here, but they are not intrusive and do not seem to cause any problems. I'm not afraid to go alone at night, but of course, as a woman, safety comes first and I wouldn't take unnecessary risks. As there are a lot of people partying in the Old Town, it's often loud and crowded.

Hey I’m Shreya, and I have lived a pretty unique and crazy life so far! Lived in Scotland, India, Czech Republic and now Latvia. I fried my own mental health apart in the past, and while i’ve healed up mostly, travelling and backpacking makes me feel alive so I want to do this a lot in my life. I did a backpacking tour through Thailand and i quickly got addicted to the feeling of meeting the most interesting, lost people and getting on with everyone I meet. Immersing myself in countries with a special culture is important to me :)
