Hong Kong is very safe for solo female travellers. The only area I’d advise to avoid after dark is Sham Shui Po as there might be petty crime or sexual harassment (catcalling etc). But people don’t approach you to look for trouble or ask for money, so even if you’re out alone after dark it’s very safe. Happy travels and welcome to my city!
Posted: March 27, 2025Honestly one of the safest countries out there unless you’re going in some shady ass scary place voluntarily. I live in Kowloon Tong specifically and honestly very residential and safe here. I have had safe clubbing experiences too.

Hong Kong is my hometown. With diverse cultures and communities, the locals here very used to communicating with foreigners, and are generally friendly. Even at late night, I feel safe as a local, and this apply to all districts!
Posted: March 6, 2025Hong Kong is very safe place for female solo travelers. With a low crime rate, we do not feel a moment of unsafe in public transport system. Cultural norms in Hong Kong promote respect and civility, and locals are often willing to help if needed. Additionally, the city has a vibrant nightlife, with many areas populated, it enhances the safety for women traveling alone at night. Overall, with proper precautions for very small crimes like pickpocketing, female solo travellers can fully enjoy their trip to Hong Kong without worry.

Hi hi, lived in Hong Kong for 7 years, I’m Chinese and speak the language, so there’s no problem! In terms of travelling here as a solo female, you have nothing to worry about, I would say it’s safe to even walk home past 12am. I would avoid walking in alley that are not well lit. Other than that, people are not SUPER friendly but hey if you need help I think they will actually lend a hand, plus English is the second language so no problem

Hong Kong is safe to travel alone, and safe to walk alone at night as a female. Dining alone is completely fine too and I never felt like I was in serious danger. Of course stay away from going into red light districts alone at night. Occasional staring and sexual harassment does occur on public transport usually with middle aged men, especially if you expose too much skin.
Posted: December 24, 2024Hong Kong is a growing gem because of its spirit. I hope you find all you need exploring what the city has to offer;) You can hike, party, enjoy the beach, chill in a cafe, walk around and discover different multicultural corner, etc.

It’s very safe in general. People are very willing to help. Not common to see crimes around except in LKF area. But even in LKF area, most people are very helpful friendly and not with bad intentions.
Posted: November 19, 2024HK is very safe, everywhere always has people and hk is in general very cautious about it’s safety overall. People visiting hk won’t have to worry much :) Violent crime is low but pickpocketing and other street crime can happen. Take extra care of passports, credit cards and money in crowded areas and when checking in and out of hotels. If you plan to hike in Hong Kong's country parks, stay on the marked trails and do not carry valuables.
Posted: October 29, 2024For a solo traveller is super safe, people are super friendly and willing to help, and you can play use your phone on the street without worrying if someone gonna mug you. English is spoken widely in the city and people are happy to communicate and help if you ask them. Transportation is very convenient and there are lots of staff to help you if needed.

Hong Kong was amazing with the wonderful vibes and the old school buildings, it was like stepping back into time in the most modern sense. I loved just walking in the streets and simply soaking in the vibes of the city.

I feel safe and the public transport is efficient. I love the northern part because I saw how locals live and work. I enjoy also the solo hiking in the mountain. I love the Hong Kong beach because of not so touristy.

Hi! I’m Andrea from Hong Kong and I’m doing a solo trip across the Schengen Area in April. I like to experience new countries through locals so I’d love it if there are some hospitable people out there who could host me! I’m down for city breaks, countryside outings and anything in between. I am clean, easygoing and have been co-housing for years so I am a respectful housemate. I look forward to meeting you! :)
